When a user changes their name...
 

via a board admin, do you think the name change should be announced?

It's similar to changing an identity. Let's say that Ricky Dinkus rips you off for $500. Ricky has his name changed to Blue Banana. You do a bit of business with Blue Banana and get ripped off once again. Yes, it is your responsibility to know who you are doing business with, but "identity changes" do not make it any easier.

There are a few users that have changed names recently and I cannot for the life of me figure out who they were before. I don't think it's all that different from creating a "fake Nick."

Thoughts?

when you look for their past threads, doesn't it bring up their old threads from their old username? GFY changes their username not the user ID... so it should show their history despite any name changes.

I always figured the users previous username should be under their current name in the "so fucking banned" line of text...

No, it changes everything, I just checked. If the original username was quoted by someone else, then yes it will show the original username, but you would need to track down a quote.

i also agree that name changes should be on the profile page - not to be edited by the user

add anyone you have done successful business with to your friend list, if they change their name thinking it would change on your friend list as well

for anyone you haven't done business with read a few of their threads to see if they have sense and nobody has complained about them scamming, when in doubt use

On some forum I saw past nickname(s) displayed under avatar.

That's was my assumption ...... just do a search on the ID number.

My name and nickname is my name everywhere. I am dick and an asshole, but I do honest business. Anyone who changes their name has something to hide - beyond the idiotic posts they ( and I mean "I" ) may have made at GFY.

I SINCERELY hope that SLY is not considering changing his name - SLY is one of the few names that I trust. Sly has hooked me up with so many good deals over the last 75 years that I probably would not even still be posting here if Sly did not hold my hand back in the day.
