I've just read the news that 897 new domain extensions is coming - .Sex . Adult .Porn .Web .Business etc. etc.
Are you going to jump into this madness?
Personally I think this whole mess is because big corporations need money so they came with this ridiculousness and I think that only .com really counts but... yeah, this is the opportunity. I doubt anything I would go for will be available without crazy biding or being already "reserved" by hungry corporations but nonetheless, I'm a bit confused here and not sure about this.
What do you think?

Good arguments have been made as to why adult should stick to .com. We don't want certain groups to pressure .coms to be free of adult content, thus creating a monopoly on 'adult' TLDs.

Same old story, a few extensions/domainers/registrars will succeed and make bank, majority extensions/domainers/registrars will lose. You will hear about every winner to create the hype. Frank Schilling mentions .XXX @ 06:25 :2 cents:

I believe that if you have the .xxx domain you are grandfathered in and automaticallyh have the the other .porn .adult .sex ext. If you don't want them for that same domain they can not and will not be sold to anyone else.

Julius, the issue is going to be twofold.

Firstly, how the domains are used. If their gTLD string creates a common community identity of the domain name holders or mainly a alternate naming string.

Secondly, how the search engines will approach the problem of tens of millions of new domains to index.

With regard to ICM Registry and .XXX The questionable political concerns about adult content are still there but so far really haven't materialized to any real threat. With the advent of all of these new gTLD strings the value of owning a .xxx may be evaluated better.

One of the concerns of ICCAN is the new Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) there will be no need if you own a trademark to multiple register cross domains. Your trademarked name in these new 800+ gTLDs http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/about/t...-clearinghouse will be protected from infringement. There are a lot of registration rules changes coming with the new gTLDs.

If anyone is a real stakeholder do some reading at the above ICANN link ...

how are they going to be useful? what can they do/offer that any other extension can't? its a desperate money grab by icann to basically get all they can while they can but why? are domain names in general going to be obsolete soon? who is going to buy .camera or .voyage domains (to only mention a couple of the hundreds of useless future extensions)? i can't see there being enough demand to keep these extensions afloat.
