I know you shouldn't believe everything you hear on the net, but people are starting to talk about it being worse than 1987...

It is coming that is for sure - We will see how bad it is Monday morning.....

I remember the 87 storm, milk bottles flying past my head at about 4 in the morning when I stumbled home stoned. Thought fuck its a bit windy. Walked past Chalkwell Park and the trees started coming down.

Chalkwell Park was a mess - In fact most of the town was pretty fucked up...

I've heard the UK is going to get some pretty bad rain over the weekend, but nothing major has been mentioned on the news...

The problem is that we only get this very rarely - So the trees, infrastructure etc. are not tested every year like it is in Florida - So we get a good storm and all hell breaks loose - Like it did in 1987...

Yep Southend boy.. luckily I left when I was 23, not my sort of town. Parents still live there though.

I left when I was 16 - Its a fucking dump - I still have some family their so I have to visit occasionally...

I went to Thorpe Bay High - Left in '86.....

I worked at The Ship and The Foresters on the front for a while - Scary pubs but fun to work in when you are in your 15/16 years old - lol...

Ah, Southend - what Saturday nights after a day on the piss in my local were all about :thumbsup

Ha, the Foresters - where they served cans of beer instead of pints in a glass - good times!

The pubs on the front were pure hell. Most of the time I`d go to the Pink Toothbrush in Railegh or Reggae night at the blueboar. Funk nights at High Society would see me down the front on a Saturday night, trying to avoid the TOTS wankers in their chinos.

I was more into the Top Alex - I used to go to High Society on gay nights.....

Oh the memories - Most of them bad - lol...

In The Ship next door it was plastic 'glasses' only so the customers couldn't kill each other with them...

Ashtrays fixed to the tables and tables fixed to the floor for the same reason - Fun times.....

We had bodyguards for staff when we went home - No kidding...

west Essex, I spent a lot more time in places like the Intrepid Fox in London or the Electric Ballroom in Camden.

I used to spend a good amount of time at the Intrepid Fox before it moved off Wardour Street to the weird venue it is in now.

yeah, I went to the new venue a year or two back just for old times sake and to see what the new place was like but it wasn't the same - not dingy enough.

Yup but you can always go buy a Byron burger in the old Fox. Sigh. My other hang out was the Ben Crouch Tavern a street or so down. That closed a few months before I left the UK>

no dresscode either which for Southend made a change.

Used to put on great concerts. I saw alot of the 80's hiphop acts there, and the bad manners boxing day concerts were legendary.

Relaxed drug policy aswell.
