World map of those for and against Iraq war

http://www.agonist.org/annex/world3.gif

This is based on Time and Newsweek magazines.

An interesting point is that some of the recent polls inside the U.S. show about a 50/50 split on support for a war, with a majority being against it if it's done without U.N. approval. Does that means that Israel and Kuwait are the only countries in the world that solidly support Bush' war?

Interlude 03-02-2003 04:55 PM

Interesting map, but misleading. This map represents simple majorities of populations, not official stances. It ignores the fact that there are dozens of countries officially supporting the war (UK, Spain, Italy, Australia, etc.), for example.

Also, I'd like to know how they got reliable poll data for about half of those countries... Gallup doesn't exacly operate in China or Zimbabwe :)

For the record, I'm anti-war.

KRL 03-02-2003 04:58 PM

So? Shows you how powerful the USA is doesn't it. :ak47:

dav555add 03-02-2003 04:59 PM

When saddam give some biological agents to al qaida and they turn around and spray france, we will see how jacques napoleon chirac feels!!!

True that, and it's the political support that counts in these situations, not the mass approval of citizens. Who is the local Gallup representative in Congo anyway? :1orglaugh

I am also anti-war for the record.

Meaningless.

It is kind of amazing that little patch of blue supports all that red mess.
Countries like Germany would not last 6 months without US taxpayers $$$...

Sly_RJ 03-02-2003 05:21 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong Mr. Fiction, but aren't you usually of the opinion that the common public usually has no fucking clue what's REALLY going on due to the bias media? Your usual claim is the media is bias towards the conservatives. I think your map above says otherwise.

Trying to prove your point by using "evidence" you otherwise discount? Haha!

I don't see that. But Scandinavia looks like a penis and Finland like its balls.

Oh btw, I think USA is quite stupid, I don't care what they do but if they go to war, more war will come to them. I'd like to see how they will get out of the situation they are creating.

I also doubt they will go after North Korea after this.

I posted a map, not my opinion. What you get out of it is up to you. :)

As far as the right wing media bias, look closer at the map. They still show the U.S. as for the war, even though recent polls show the opposite if the UN doesn't approve. That actually proves the right wing pro-war bias of the U.S. media.

It's like when they continue to call Bush a "popular president" even though he is about 20% below Clinton's popularity during the right wing blowjob impeachment. If Bush is a popular president, Clinton must have been a really really popular president. :)

So fascinated by the shapes of the countries!

I dont get you Mr. Fiction.
You present ""facts"" without taking the time to check it first.
If you bothered to check where this image comes from you would get to this site:http://www.agonist.org/annex/

imcluding these pictures...
Now - how much red do you see here??
<IMG SRC=http://www.agonist.org/sean-paulkelley/world_stance_on_war_map.gif WIDTH=786 HEIGHT=432>
http://www.agonist.org/sean-paulkelley/Oppose.gif

But MOST important is - the right thing is not always the most popular. Show me a map of the supporting countries regarding Israel's attack on the Nuclear reactor in Iraq in 1981.

I was talking with a few peeps from the states this week. Not one of them thought it was a god idea to start a war in the Middle East much to my surprise..

hershie 03-02-2003 07:18 PM

its too easy for these governements to bend to public opinion which of course will be anti-war rather then taking a principled stand and support the US efforts to dump a tyrant. I read in last week's Macleans magazine that public opinion in France and Germany is now more anti-US then it was anti-Nazi in the 30's.

Jizar II 03-02-2003 07:18 PM

I got this map here....

.:Frog:. 03-02-2003 07:25 PM

The problem is government officals supporting the war, when the majority of the population opposes the war.

.:Frog:. 03-02-2003 07:31 PM

XXXManager - Canada does not support war, unless the UN decides war is required.

Your map is misleading and incorrect.

Think about it... what was their opinion shortly AFTER that?

By the early 40's things had changed a LOT hadn't they?

How quickly they forget......

Yep - latest survey showed that 99.99999999999% of americans are against the war. You must have talked to all of them :thumbsup

Brad

kmanrox 03-03-2003 02:10 AM

you can all stress out about this all you want, and bump your gums like it makes a difference... but inevitably the strongest country in the world, the U.S.A. will decimate Iraq. Nothing you do or say can stop it. Deal with it.

twistyneck 03-03-2003 02:15 AM

What about Equatorial Guinea? Everybody knows that Equatorial Guineans are in favor of a war with Iraq yet there is no mention of that on the map.

"Countries like Germany would not last 6 months without US taxpayers $$$.."

... but the question is, will we last another 6 month with the support of the US tax payers ?

ServerGenius 03-03-2003 02:42 AM

Even from the countries that support the US most citizens are
against it. For example Spain. 95% is against the war. Aznar
the prime minister supports Bush.....but he will never make the
next elections. The protests in Spain are massive in the polls
he will not get any votes at all anymore if they would have
elections now.

Well the US sure wouldn't want to do anything without Spain's approval huh?

Having a little problem with comprehensive reading? The question
was majority of people in countries who are against a war. Not
if that would make any difference.....

In truth no common population EVER supported any wars, they are destructive, displace entire populations and bring nothing but pain, death and misery to the locals. Still wars happen all the time.

InsaneMidget 03-03-2003 06:41 AM

That's kind of sad isn't it?

Unable to make a decision based on anything other than going along with what someone else does.

Good thing the world doesn't depend on Canada for anything important huh?
