Gravity: First Movie Worth Going To A Theater In Years

Went to see Gravity in 3D Imax. It's a tremendous leap forward in the use of 3D cinema to tell a story. The movie is beautiful and the decision to use items moving away from you rather than toward you as action points works perfectly. With a 50something inch HD television on my wall there aren't any other movies I can think of that make it worth going to a theater... but watching Gravity in 2D or a 50 inch screen, or even a standard 3D movie screen... would be like watching a stripper while you're wearing a welding mask.

Go see it, and make sure it's in 3D Imax. :2 cents:

Ok, will do!

arock10 10-21-2013 09:30 AM

This was my one movie for the year I'll see in a theater. Definitely happy with my choice, was fucking pretty bad ass

MaDalton 10-21-2013 09:57 AM

saw it yesterday in 3D, definitely a great movie

have to say though that Rush left me emotionally more impressed

But since thats a movie about F1 it will be probably ignored by Americans mostly ;)

EddyTheDog 10-21-2013 10:12 AM

I hear that everyone is saying great - I just don't fancy a story about 2 people stuck in space - It just sounds boring...

xNetworx 10-21-2013 10:27 AM

Gravity and Captain Phillips were BORING.

RUSH FTW

PuffyCash_Megan 10-21-2013 10:36 AM

Eugh we are supposed to be seeing Captain Phillips this weekend coming, but if it's boring i'm not sure i'll stick it

seeandsee 10-21-2013 10:39 AM

yes i agree, you need to watch it in wide 3d

Scott McD 10-21-2013 10:41 AM

I think i'm going to go see it next weekend. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint after the hype...

PR_Glen 10-21-2013 01:56 PM

It's good, but if you think its the only movie worth seeing in the theatres in years you don't get out enough.. hehe

I'll give you this year maybe, it was a pretty slow year for movies..

brassmonkey 10-21-2013 01:59 PM

looks stupid

What are some others worth seeing in the cinema vs at home on a good home theater system?

SilentKnight 10-21-2013 03:45 PM

Watched it the other night.

The visuals were eye-popping...but the premise was (yawn)...so-so.

Agreed.

In 2D on a 50 inch television the movie is a C+ at best...

In 3D on Imax it's the best movie of its kind I've ever seen...

Well, if that is the case I will stay home - smoke a bowl and watch Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and actually not get bored. Oh and save $50 bucks on a couple of tickets!

Thanks!

2001: A Space Odyssey and Gravity aren't even in the same league.

I'd re-watch Kubrick's epic for the umpteenth time before watching Gravity again.

Give it a chance. Trust me you'll love it. Way better than I expected, and I guarantee you your hands will sweat.

It's also not just a story about 2 people stuck in space. The story is deeper then that. And if you go and see the movie not seeing the "other" story you may want to watch it again.

I liked 2001 but lets be honest. It's dull as dishwater and takes forever to get to the point. In the 1960's its visual effects were the best ever seen on screen (and I'm a huge Douglas Trumble Fan, and a huge Kubrick fan...)

Gravity isn't nearly as expansive as 2001 but it does reach new heights in visual effects, which is really hard to say in today's CG world. Plus... the seamlessness... the amazing camera moves... the lonnnngggg cuts... the soundlessness .... SPLOOGE!

Gotta see it again now..

Do this :

Turn up your speakers to 10, set your monitor to full screen, crank the rez up to 720 or 1080, and watch this clip. https://youtube.com/watch?v=C4pcg7bXgmU

GACK!

Oh and by the way it is completely, completely, totally, absolutely, worth paying $20 to see it in IMAX 3D. And I usually don't like 3D movies because they are sometimes blurry or dark or too 2D'ish... Gravity was made for this format.

RUSH FTW

Transformers 4 might be a better fit for your attention span.

Never seen any of those Transformer movies.

Don't be such a fanboy.

You should, they are decent. Transformers 1 is the best. Transformers 2 sucked. Transformers 3 is also very good and is a leap-forward in visual effects.

freecartoonporn 10-22-2013 01:32 AM

now i gotta watch this one too.

Robin 10-22-2013 01:36 AM

No idea what the story is at all but that didn't make me want to go see it.

Sid70 10-22-2013 09:02 AM

Great flick 10/10 except for the Sandra's yelling high pitch all the way :)

Holy Hawk 10-22-2013 09:12 AM

TheMoneyMan 10-22-2013 09:15 AM

Incredibly boring. And it's mostly just 1 person, so imagine how much fun that is. Just came back from the theater, what a stinker. It's amazing what some (most) people consider great these days.

You're right... it's about 1 person stuck in space. What a trite piece of shit.

Please do enlighten me what was the "other" story? The never-give-up/keep on fighting till the end bullshit? Please tell me because I want my money and time back.

J. Falcon 10-23-2013 08:03 PM

I will end by saying Spaceballs was a more entertaining (and probably more believable) sci fi movie. Oh yeah, with a much more interesting plot too.

Don't you hate when there's only one person in a movie? The fucking nerve they have making a movie like that, because a ticket is worth at least 2 or 3 actors.

Yeah I do. Actually, I can't think of a single good movie with only one actor in it.
