What software would you use to build a niche social network?

If you were going to build a mainstream social network, like say a networking site to find friends near me to go out to lunch with or go bird watching with (humor me), what software would you use?

I was looking at PhpFox but saw the mobile version isn't that great and they offer little support.

How would you set it up? :helpme

Thanks, thats actually the nicest one I've seen. Do you know how they are abut support and development? I'll need serious customization and dont want to choose a company who is hard to reach. thanks

No I don't. I played around with it years ago but never dealt with support or development. They've been around for a lot of years though and it looks pretty popular so I'm sure you can find developers.

I wouldn't waste my time, my finances, or one ounce of effort making a social network.
