If you had to live in a fictional world, which one?

I think I'd actually go for the one in the movie In Time. I didn't particularly enjoy it, but to me, it would actually be very interesting to see how the world worked when time literally was money.

Depends... what would be my place in this new fantasy world?

SilentKnight 10-19-2013 06:19 AM

From 'Star Trek':

Risa - Also called Epsilon Ceti B II, located about 88.2 light-years from Earth, known for its beauty and relaxing tropical atmosphere. It is a world commonly sought by interstellar vacationers and starship crews on shore leave.

The planet orbits several stars and its climate is controlled by a weather modification network, with the natural climate being extremely violent. Risians are extremely open and will freely share their planet, and even themselves, with vacationers; a practice known as "Jamaharon".

Stay away from the Transporter. "You", are not "you", when you materialize on the other end. Star Trek got it wrong. When you transport from A to B, what comes out of B is a copy of you. It's completely you, but another you. "A" you is actually destroyed, and "b" you lives your life, not you. Transporters suck.

Have you ever read the short story "The Jaunt" by Stephen King?

This is an interesting philosophical question. What is "you" other than a specific arrangement of chemical and electrical signals in a physical brain? Replicating those patterns exactly should give each copy an equal right to claim it is "you". Functionally, "you" wouldn't know the difference -- you'd have no way to tell, and isn't that "you" from that perspective?

Incidentally, the movie based on Michael Crichton's 1999 novel Timeline excluded this exploration of the effect, while the book did not.

I'd like to hang out in Anita Blake's world for awhile...

bean-aid 10-20-2013 07:56 PM

I would live in ultra violence world. All tv's would be tuned into clockwork orange live news feeds as well as the rocky horror show updates.

AmeliaG 10-20-2013 07:56 PM

When I was a little kid, I wanted to go to Narnia so badly, it was like a physical ache. Haven't thought about this question in a loooooooooooong time though.

garce 10-21-2013 01:41 AM

I would live in either the tiny Illusion-created world of AG3 - or maybe Sexy Beach 2. Yeah. That is what I would do. Nothing with fighting, though. Just big bouncy boob-world.

It wouldn't look so creepy if you painted an expression of surprise on it and cut open a hole for its mouth.

iSpyCams 10-21-2013 10:30 AM

The 90's, but not the real 90's. The awesome 90's everyone here remembers.

sperbonzo 10-21-2013 02:29 PM
