I decided I wanted to get a new phone and I use it enough to get a contract...

In the UK, the total cost of ownership of a phone on a contract works out quite a lot more than buying it outright, and then getting a sim-only rolling contract.

FYI. And with Apple products, the resale value of older models is so high, when the new shiny comes out, you flog your old one and get the new one for considerably less cash.

I did it online - I have sent bank statements, utility bills, passport - What more could they need?..

I still have no bloody phone though - They are still not even sure I 'qualify' - If I don't have a phone in my hand by the morning they can GFY.....

I did a bit of research and this works out pretty well - Its an S4 with unlimited data including tethering and has a deal where I can use it in Spain at a good rate - That's a big bonus for me...

Yup its great, you can usually score 3-400 usd for a used Iphone out of contract. Then when its time to buy a new one you pay $200 for the new phone with contract and pocket the remainder.

A phone is a phone at this point. I have an android, does everything any other phone can do. No dropped calls, no issues. Whatever.

Never buy a phone on contract - its a rip off. Pay for whatever phone you want and then activate it with your carried of choice. You save alot of money that way.

assuming you have the capital to buy the phone, judging from the OP's other posts, I doubt he has.

Buy a used phone, S3 are quite cheap now and adequate enough; even an S3 mini is OK, about same size as an iphone I think.

Then look at giffgaff site, 500 UK minutes, unlimited UK texts, 1GB internet = £10/month.

Extra for Spain; 2p min to land, 9p min to cell, 8p/text.

(Uses O2, just check their signal quality where your based)

Just fill in their online form and you get sim card 2/3 days later, max.

Actually, this month I could have paid for it - I am starting to wish I had...

my girlfriend bought me a new samsung galaxy mini but the damn thing won't turn on.

He wants to use it in spain not call there from here. And giffgaff is pretty unreliable.
