Has anyone successfully done this?

Yes - Since the first generation iPhone.


Which iPhone do you have? What version of the software are you running? And when you say unlock, are you talking about carrier unlock, or about Jailbreaking the phone?

call customer support tell them u bought it on ebay, argue and say you want the supervisor, they will ask if you have the receipt and how much u paid for it...say you have it and that you paid $600 or so. Tell them you will fax them the recipt and they will unlock it in 24-48 hours. No need to send the receipt. Enjoy

not jailbreaking it, but unlocking it so it can be used on another carrier.

People on ebay can do this quickly, and cheaply. Just do a search.

you dont have to make up any lie to get at&t to unlock your phone

they will unlock any phone that is older than 60 days

ATT has told them repeatedly they will not unlock it.

The phone is about 1.5 years old

A large bill is still owed.

Since it's not your bill and you payed for the item on ebay you don't give a shit. You're not AT&T's customer either.

If there is still a balance owed on the phone AT&T wont unlock it. once that is cleared they will.
