Big Obamacare Problem??

Discuss.....

Quote:

Will Sheehan claims that when he tried to sign up for Obamacare and then register to opt out, he received an ominous warning. Sheehan?s full Facebook post reads;

?I actually made it through this morning at 8:00 A.M. I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually I chose tier 2 ?Silver Plan? and my monthly premiums came out to $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!! There is NO POSSIBLE way that I can afford this so I ?opt-out? and chose to continue along with no insurance.

I received an email tonight at 5:00 P.M. informing me that my fine would be $4,037 and could be attached to my yearly income tax return. Then you make it to the ?REPERCUSSIONS PORTION? for ?non-payment? of yearly fine. First, your drivers license will be suspended until paid, and if you go 24 consecutive months with ?Non-Payment? and you happen to be a home owner, you will have a federal tax lien placed on your home. You can agree to give your bank information so that they can easy ?Automatically withdraw? your ?penalties? weekly, bi-weekly or monthly! This by no means is ?Free? or even ?Affordable.?

Right wing conspiracy bullshit by Alex Jones.

The Affordable Care Act itself states that the IRS cannot file a lien on a property because an uninsured person fails to pay a penalty. Nor can it seize bank accounts or garnish paychecks to recover Obamacare fines. Nor will Americans who refuse to pay for mandatory health insurance be subject to criminal prosecution of any kind.

Infowars acknowledges all this, but concludes that the Facebook poster, Will Sheehan, still might be right: "Either Sheehan?s claim that he received this notice is a lie, or the feds have been dishonest with the American people all along, and the revolt against Obamacare is about to take 'don't tread on me' to a whole new level."

As Obamacare moves from legislation to reality, many of the old conspiracy theories making the chain email rounds will be laid to rest. It seems there will be no shortage of new tin foil hat tales to take their place.

The fine for opting out is tiny - 200 odd bucks - though it will rise over the years, but not to anywhere close to 4000 dollars.

Mutt 10-05-2013 07:46 PM

How much are the penalties for not buying a health plan?

The penalties are not very high to begin with. In 2014, the fine to remain uninsured is $95 per person (up to a family maximum of $285, or 1 percent of family income, whichever is greater).

But the penalty will increase more than sevenfold in the next two years, with the fine running as much as $695 per person by 2016. The family maximum would be as high as $2,085 (or 2.5 percent of family income, whichever is greater).

The scary thing about Alex Jones is that he's every bit the moron those who follow him are.

Has anybody ever done a website tracking how many of his 'facts' and 'predictions' turn out to be wrong? Has he ever gotten even one of them right?

Fiction..

So you get a fine for not buying a private companies product? You don't buy it you are a criminal. Why not make it a law that you have to buy a Ford. If not you get a fine or buy a new apple iPhone or you get a fine.
Same shit . Illegal, unconstitutional and Unamerican.
They can't pass a law that violates the constitution.
It violates the 4th and 5th amendments.
4th to be secure in you documents(you don't have to share them with anybody)
5th the right to remain silent(in order to sign up for anything you have to speak, but you have the right to remain silent)
my advice, shut up, ignore it, don't give any information. let it fail and vote out the democrats until they repeal it.

It is the Federal Supreme Court that decides what is constitutional and what is not...not you...and the Federal Supreme Court has ruled that ACA is constitutional.

My cousin - a rabid tea party guy - posted it to his FB. I posted that it was a hoax, and I wasn't snotty about it. I just said "hoax" with a link to the politifact article.

What did he do? He shot the messenger. I was not the least bit surprised. Wouldn't want facts messing up his little reality bubble.:disgust

its not a fine...but a tax...and fully constitutional..Fox News (and backers) has paid a lot to buy your opinion..looks like it worked.

You righty wingnuts are sure hoping it fails, you guys have gambled the farm...well this is going to be the death knell for the Republican Party when over the next 10 years the ACA will be fully functional and as popular and as entrenched as social security. How can anyone could take the Repugs seriously after this defeat?
