Rand Paul on the looming DEFAULT crisis....

"If we dont raise the Debt Ceiling what that means is you'd have a balanced budget."

-Rand Paul

it's long and boring but skip to 3:05 for crazytown

This is one of the all time BATSHIT statements I have EVER heard from anyone in Washington.

It's just bizzaro what he is saying here - he's for NOT raising the Debt Limit...yet everything he says here seems the inverse....let's just PROMISE to pay the bills! hahahaha funhouse logic.

too bad he's got the strain of crazy from his pops - otherwise he could be good...I like his views on war and drugs and other things...but then he just veers off into straight jacket territory every time.

We need 100 more Harry Reids in the Senate. Do your part to make it happen.

classic - if I take issue with a Republican then I must love the leaders on the Dem side...

if you want to make a statement in support of Rand let's hear your side of it instead of just kicking sand.

It's all a jackass stunt by republicans to stonewall success.
If Obama care is stalled until repubs gain the white house the first thing they will do is
rename Obamacare and then fund it all.

:2 cents:

Thats an Op Ed....just one guys opinion... and it's also wacky:
"the government has been financing its monthly budget deficit by stealing/borrowing money from other government funds"

you actually take that hack seriously?

Part of me really hopes the fringe right can somehow hold onto this protest long enough to actually cause the default to happen...just so we can really see the bottom drop out (as a former stock broker I know it's financial suicide)...if these Teabaggers get their wish and we default...we will see how far the rabbit hole goes.

You guys really have no interest in learning about finance and the markets or wouldn't think the "whole raise your ceiling or remove the shit" thing is so funny and cool... because it's just laughable that anyone would think the analogy applies.

I use to be co-owner of a mortgage company. I've seen countless of people who tried to live like the Federal government does and it didn't work for them why should it work for the government?

That's all outside of the fact that the Federal government has been operating in bankruptcy receivership since 1933.

My point was the voting public has no concept of numbers that large and just tunes them out and drives the kids to soccer practice.

Also, a person is a bound actor, a government is not. A government is the only "free" entity left. Any human today is born in debt to someone, unless they are one of a handful of people. Governments are free within their space to pursue their aims and goals. There is no "higher power" to compel payment or even contractual obligation.

Then why do they have to pay debt? Wouldn't the private Federal Reserve be the higher power to which they are compelled?

Heavy.

Every cult needs a demon - with Scientology it's Psychiatrists...with you guys its always the Fed

Libertarianism would be cool if we could start it fresh..like say go to Antarctica or someplace where there are no native peoples...set up a totally free state where the playing field is level to begin with...then it might actually have a shot.

But here in the US where we have the immigrants the poor the sick the disabled and the decendents of slaves - where you have 400 families that already control the majority of the wealth... well then sorry Libertarians but the train has left the station.

Because it affects borrowing costs. Assuming you want to stay civilized, that matters. That isn't being compelled, though. If you don't pay taxes, you will be compelled to pay them, through physical threat. The US can't be compelled physically by any power.

You know that even the dumbest hicks know if the House Republicans won't vote to raise the debt limit that it has nothing to do with the debt and everything to do with Obama. Lets just cop to that and keep our feet on Earth and start disagreeing from there.

It's the same as saying 'honey, if we don't pay our credit card bills and our mortgage this month we have plenty of cash left over'

Moronic

When you say The US do you mean the people and states within or the corporation also known as the US headquartered in Washington D.C.?

I mean the US government. Since they can fire nuclear warheads that would effectively end civilization, I figure they have more power than anyone else you could point to, including all non-military personnel put together.
