"Not all scientists are panicking about global warming — one of them finds the alarmism “hilarious.”

A top climate scientist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology lambasted a new report by the UN’s climate bureaucracy that blamed mankind as the main cause of global warming and whitewashed the fact that there has been a hiatus in warming for the last 15 years.


“I think that the latest IPCC report has truly sunk to level of hilarious incoherence,” Dr. Richard Lindzen told Climate Depot, a global warming skeptic news site. “They are proclaiming increased confidence in their models as the discrepancies between their models and observations increase.”

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change claimed it was 95 percent sure that global warming was mainly driven by human burning of fossil fuels that produce greenhouse gases. The I.P.C.C. also glossed over the fact that the Earth has not warmed in the past 15 years, arguing that the heat was absorbed by the ocean.

“Their excuse for the absence of warming over the past 17 years is that the heat is hiding in the deep ocean,” Lindzen added. “However, this is simply an admission that the models fail to simulate the exchanges of heat between the surface layers and the deeper oceans.”

“However, it is this heat transport that plays a major role in natural internal variability of climate, and the IPCC assertions that observed warming can be attributed to man depend crucially on their assertion that these models accurately simulate natural internal variability,” Lindzen continued. “Thus, they now, somewhat obscurely, admit that their crucial assumption was totally unjustified.”

Scientists have been struggling to explain the 15-year hiatus in global warming, and governments have been urging them to whitewash the fact that temperatures have not been rising because such data would impact the upcoming climate negotiations in 2015.

The Associated Press obtained documents that show the Obama administration and some European governments pressured UN climate scientists to downplay or even omit data that shows the world hasn’t warmed in over a decade.

“Germany called for the reference to the slowdown to be deleted, saying a time span of 10-15 years was misleading in the context of climate change, which is measured over decades and centuries,” the AP report said. “The U.S. also urged the authors to include the ‘leading hypothesis’ that the reduction in warming is linked to more heat being transferred to the deep ocean.”

Global warming skeptics have exploited such data to show that the science behind manmade global warming is faulty and politically driven.

“[I]n attributing warming to man, they fail to point out that the warming has been small, and totally consistent with there being nothing to be alarmed about,” Lindzen said. “It is quite amazing to see the contortions the IPCC has to go through in order to keep the international climate agenda going.”

However, believers in catastrophic global warming have said the UN report should serve as a wake-up call to those who would deny the issue’s urgency.

“Those who deny the science or choose excuses over action are playing with fire,” said Secretary of State John Kerry. “Once again, the science grows clearer, the case grows more compelling and the costs of inaction grow beyond anything that anyone with conscience or common sense should be willing to even contemplate.”

Yeah.. I'm sure that MUST be true. It could not be that the majority of scientists in the world have arrived at similar conclusions because that's where the data lead them.

Richard Lindzen has *always* been an anti-climate change guy - he's probably the most-credentialed ("Oooooh, MIT!!!") of the scientists in that camp and is treated like a celebrity by them. Thing is, plenty of his own research on the matter has been shown to be flawed, the whole "iris mechanism" theory was full of errors that even he's fully admitted in hindsight.

This is a decent article that sums up the info & different viewpoints on his work, if anyone cares to actually inform themselves (unlikely for GFY, I know) rather than posting sound bites & cherry-picked quotes from Tucker Carlson's tabloid.

the data collected of climate can be done as a whole potentially. The data is out there, based on that we can make better and accurate predictions.

you worded it as if it was some galactic mystery which will never and can never be solved, which is not the case with this.

no i didn't. i worded it as this week's update. next week will be different. watch, this scientist is just 1 guy, several/many more will follow in his footsteps over the next days/weeks/months, etc until the next climate report comes out and it all starts again.

Don't get me wrong, I think we should all do the right thing. I recycle myself.

Ice ages came and went long before man was around. We are currently in an ice age, and things are heating up. This is exactly what is supposed to happen.

Obviously those who still believe in the great myth of Climate Change don't read news sources that did report on the email scandal called Climate Gate or numerous peer reviews of these UK and US Global Warming scientists' source data that went "missing" when asked for, or, the fact that their sensors were positioned geographically to skew data and the list goes on. Yet one fact remains. The so called man-made warming stopped over 15 years ago and was more likely caused by sun burst activity during those years which resulted in many telecommunications problems and the like.

The fact is that Global Warming was a farce started by politically and financially driven scientists and capitalized upon by politicians seeking to expand their power and tax base. Al Gore with his Silicon Valley investors started the now defunct Global Warming Emissions Credit Exchange in Chicago who together stood to profit in the billions.

The Father of Global Warming scientist James Lovelock, who wrote the original theory, now believes that followers of Global Warming are acting more like religious zealots, because, he says, it was a theory that never was actually proven with any real factual data. There are those who seek the truth and become informed in the process and then there are those who like to sound smart by regurgitating political propaganda which Global Warming today can only be called. Propaganda which is still used by the left to attack industry and Capitalism which are the real targets of their hatred.

Don't forget Obama being one of those founders.

This is just one of those topics that people love to declare the "truth" about, despite knowing fuck-all about the subject. This thread is case in point.

I've done work in the climate sciences field and could do a point-by-point evidence based rebuttal of plenty of the shit in this thread and elsewhere. But it'd be a waste of my time because people will always talk out their ass on things they know nothing about, in the name of ideology and claiming that their particular worldview is the Truth, Whole Truth, and Nothing But The Truth.

Humans are predictable and stupid, for the most part.

Of the 14 hottest years on record since 1850, 12 of them have been 2001-2012. 2013 is also set to be one of the hottest years on record.

Either we have two options here:

1. There are over 100,000 scientists from various countries, institutions and backgrounds that have devoted themselves to the collection of data and discussion of global warming as a product of human-induced atmospheric conditions that has seen a worldwide shift in temperature.

2. There are over 100,000 scientists from various countries, institutions and backgrounds that make up data, forge scientific articles and do so purely to interest a group of select elite individuals that profit from the conspiracy.

It's a real shame that, not only do you believe that climate change isn't a thing, but you're cruel and vicious enough to circulate poor science and arguments that might convince people on the fence that what you're saying is true.

I will offer you one chance, and one chance only, to respond with evidence that has been peer-reviewed and replicated that displays the Earth has not been gradually warming over the last dozen years.

It's a massive THIRD WORLD WELFARE SCHEME. Yet another way to milk WHITE GUILT (in this case, Developed Country Guilt). It's disgusting. I speak from the perspective of seeing local politicians in my country getting excited about the Climate Change windfall. :mad:
