Thinking of going to The Phoenix forum..but

I am thinking of attending The Phoenix Forum, The Xbiz LA show or maybe both. I haven't been to a show since before shit hit the fan with tubes and the economy. So the last show I went to was essentially a party.

I have heard they are much different now. Would it be worth it for me to go?

To explain a bit further.

While Yanks.com is a paysite, I prefer to think of it as a brand that I own which I want to transcend .com or any particular form of content over the long term.

My goal is always simple to grow and monetize the brand.

What I don't need is to talk to 50 different supporting companies, Cams sites, dating sites, toy companies, hosting, billing etc. etc. While those companies are crucial I can compare and contrast most of those by reading Xbiz and going to the sites. New innovative ideas are awesome and I would love to be sold those.

Essentially switching my current solution of any of the above to a new one for a + or - 5% swing because we had a beer doesn't really float my boat.

New innovative ideas are a different story and I would love get involved with new channels there.

So I guess my long winded question is if I go to a show is there opportunities for me to accomplish my goal and find some new legitimate revenue channels or partners?

You really want to go to PHX Forum, it's probably the best show of the year, along with Vegas.

I hate saying "shows are what you make of them" but it is rather true. If you are looking to make new relationships and seek out opportunities then there are plenty to be had, for those who like to party, there's no shortage of that either.

There's no substitution for meeting people face to face and actually sitting down with them and having a proper conversation. What comes of it, that is something that usually comes from following up after the show from my experience.

The last forum I was presented with an opportunity out of the blue after being introduced to someone while a group of us were just relaxing in the courtyard. The chance encounter lead to a brief discussion at the show, some more in depth talks since and now 6 months later we are working on something that might turn out to be one of the largest deal/project of my 14 years in adult.

Point is you never know what can come from a show, some may be not so lucrative, some can change the course of your business for years to come.

I really enjoy seeing friends and colleagues so it's rare I would ever consider attending a show a waste.

You shouldn't rule out Internext in January, the last couple years have been great imo.

Kenny said it very well. There's no "new, innovative idea" convention. Shows are a huge cross section of the industry. You've got has-beens, new young successful guys, loud poor guys, quiet rich guys, and everything in between. There's guys who have been consistently successful the last 15 years, guys who have had ups and downs, guys who reinvent themselves every few years, and guys still trying to find that next big thing. Meeting people face to face and having random conversations about business and life is invaluable to me. Even just talking about your own business out loud to a friend or even stranger can help you develop new perspective.

The parties are also decent, and hey, it's a write off.

One of the better shows as people always claim, so you should go.

I have to concur with Kenny that Phoenix and Internext in January are key shows to attend.
