Never been there. Show us pics when you get back! :1orglaugh

Ten bucks says you don't get thru customs if you're wearing that scarf.
|
What would you want to know?
|
Patong in Phuket area is the most expansive city of Thailand. A lot of whores, but i don't like too much the beaches around, the only i like is Paradise Beach...if you want you can take the boat from there and go to Phi Phi Island, one of the most beautiful places of Thailand.
|
I was gonna go once but said Phuket :thumbsup

Don't rent a jet ski. Many renters have to pay for damage they didn't create. Some have to buy a new jet ski. It's an ongoing scam and the police are in on it, taking 20% of the money.
If you refuse to pay, you get attacked. Shit like this happens all the time: http://phuketwan.com/tourism/phuket-...ng-sign-18900/ http://phuketwan.com/tourism/tourist...pattaya-15857/ http://thailandjetskiscamt.blogspot.com/ http://www.phuket.com/phuket-magazine/phuket-scams.htm Also watch your motorbike if you rent one. They scam a lot on those too. ALWAYS lie about where you are staying so it's harder for the bike owner to find their bike so they can't steal it from you while you sleep. Other than the scams, it's a fun place to holiday. |

Not a lot happens in Rawai its a fishing village, however if your into seafood.. its paradise.
Buy your seafood at the beach, take it to one of the many restaurants across the road and they cook it for you. Rawai is a very quiet area far away from the hustles of Patong. I prefer to stay in Kata, but its over run with Russians now and as mentioned a trip to PhiPhi is a must, checkout Johngreys sea canoe tours as well. me and wifey go yearly and split a week in Kata and a week in Phiphi, might got to Patong if friends come over but basically avoid it, tis a shit hole. I always stay here, http://www.boathousephuket.com/ yet to find a better hotel in the world! Head up for Sunset and Happy hour one night and go wtf aren't I staying here. :P |
When I was in 6th grade I got sent home for wearing a shirt my grandfather brought me back from there.. "Just Phuket!" I remember the office had to call the teacher for an explanation why she sent me home.
|
Been there, Also stayed in Rawai! Great place!

I understand going to Samui for an Ibiza type holiday, I also understand drinking lads trips to Phuket or even sex tourism if that is what you want. Thailand is good for expats too, convenient and loads of business opportunities BUT for the life of me I can't understand going to these places for relaxing holidays, priced gouged by the tuk tuk mafia, walking in the dust with family in tow on the side of the road, dirty beaches full of tourists.. and people come back for more, it blows my mind. |

I was there for a week then we visited the north of Thailand. Was not at all what I expected. Very touristy and way too much people. Beaches were jammed packed and no chairs available. What I loved about it was when we rented a scooter and went for a rides visiting beautiful hidden places and amazing temples and ate at tiny little restaurants on the side roads. I suggest you use Phuket as a starting point to visit the closer islands.
If you are thinking of visiting the island where the movie The Beach was shot (Ko Phi Phi Leh) I suggest you do not take the tour everyone tells you too. You will be disappointed. You will be visiting it with thousands of other people and its a very small beach. Nothing magic about being dropped off on a beach where you can't even see it. Take the night tour where you eat and sleep there and wake up early to the sunrise on a deserted beach that is a good experience. If your a bit of a voyeur you must take a nightly walk and drinks in Palong. It's pretty crazy at night and just to warn you... lots of those beautiful ladies actually have the bottom equipment too. Besides that Thailand is beautiful. Just check out Phuket's top attractions (like the big Buddha) on sites like trip adviser and rent yourself a car or scooter (watch out the driving is crazy) and stay away from the money stealing Tuk Tuks. One ride in one of them and it's the same price as a days rental. Oh yeah and food is fantastic. I gained at least 10 pounds! Have fun and watch yourself ;) |

I will be heading to Bangkok in 2/3 weeks also and will stay in Thailand 3 or 4 months. Maybe Cambodia, Philippines or Vietnam also.
I was thinking to start in Bangkok and than to the direction of Phuket, cause on the other site (Koh Samui / Koh Chang) it is raining season. But what can people recommend me? I liked Koh-Chang very much last year and Koh Samui 9 years ago. This time i want to go to Chiang Mai, though i don't like to stay inlands but prefer beaches. There are a lot of dating industry people now in Thailand, maybe we must start a Bangkok Meeting. I will meet at least 7 persons. Maybe we can meet Bryan and have a drink, that will be number 8. |

Right now Thailand is getting hit with a typhoon and a lot of areas are flooding. So make sure you spend some time looking into what ends up under water before you come. Bangkok might end up flooding again. If you want beaches, hit the small, less visited islands. The big islands are tourist traps in every sense of the word. If you want a real SE Asian holiday that isn't full of over developed, scamming crap holes, hit Laos or Burma. Thailand is cool if you want to screw whores or hit more remote areas / islands, but Laos and Burma are where you want to be right now. See them before they get ruined too. |
I've been to Thailand many times - I suggest getting out to the Islands rather than staying in Phuket central. Very touristy and lots of 100 year old men walking around with young girls (disturbing). Unless thats what you a re going for I would head straight for the Islands as they arent quite as bad. You will absolutely love it there - people are super freindly and the beaches are amazing. If you dive you'll have a blast - if not get certified while there.
