I think the reason is because it's a blatant disregard for their life - you know yourself that at times, you've indulged. Buying a second slice of cheese cake, making a batch of spaghetti that's a little to big - whatever it is, we've all been there. That's no problem. But whatever it is that mentally inhibits that desire for short term satisfaction in most people seems void in individuals like Fat Man.

I think in the same way society sees serial killers as being fascinating objet d'art - it's the same for overweight people that embrace it. I mean, we all like to think that we could do a series of killings, but the fact that a serial killer acts on those desire is the same as Fat Man eating 4 pot pies in one sitting. Not quite as damaging to those around him, but I think the interest in those that simply do not conform exists in most.
