Am I stupid or Just a Fucking Idiot

Sigh, so I use an external hard drive to hold a lot of my stuff like a lot of you here.

I keep a lot of it encrypted like, my personal details (bank accounts, logins etc), my personal photos, my 'other business'.

Unfortunately I also kept an unencrypted excel spreadsheet with all of my affiliate logins, passwords and other important stuff on it.

The reason.. I was lazy :(

Today I lost my hard drive (misplaced) and as time goes on I think there is less chance of finding it.

I feel like I should cut my head off with a rusty saw..

Don't beat yourself up. Stuff happens. Learn. Move on.

Arnox 09-26-2013 03:25 PM

Consider using dropbox/Google Drive for this kind of thing in future.

Thanks man. I just hate to think what someone might have access to. If they have the brain to look.

I was looking into something like this just a few weeks ago, cost like $4 a month but would have taken a couple of weeks of constant uploading to get what I needed online. Can't remember the website though :(

DropBox is drag and drop, or copy and paste. It chills in your taskbar and is an actual program.

Yet I bet you you still pay for your gas at the pump too don't you? (My hometown has been hit hard by people a gang who have card readers at the pumps at multiple gas stations.)

I've been online twenty years now, never hacked. Worst case, you get hacked, they get your banking info, and your account is locked down for 48 hours until the bank figures it out. Stop fucking worrying so much.

I have stuff on drives like that also.

One rule....Never leave the house with it.

Solution for the future.. Download a copy of Keepass. Install it on a thumb drive. Pass protect the thumb drive and pass protect Keepass. And from now on, you ONLY have to remember the two passwords. Not only that, Keepass makes it simple to generate and use random passwords.

I used to be one of those idiots who had the same password on every site. Not anymore, thanks to this awesome free program.

WTF???

You upload all your personal information, all your passwords, bank accounts information, all your LIFE, to an online SITE ??

Are you fucking crazy or just too naive?

I can't fucking believe it... :disgust

Seriously, I can't believe some people upload all their data to store it in an online site like DropBox or Drive...

Tell me it's a fucking joke. Can't believe how naive some people are.

if i was you i would have all that data on the computer too, not the external hard drive alone.

keep calm and buy a new external hard drive.

Hey, I did have it all backed up onto another drive. My worry was that it would fall into the wrong hands.

Imagine, There are like 50 affiliate programs with usernames and passwords. There are all my personal sites which even through the password wasn't with them it wouldn't have taken a genius to crack them based on the ones I use for the affiliate programs.

On top of these was all my personal data. Banking details, personal photos, website backups, business details including business banking and all related passwords and logins. Whilst all this was encrypted, again it wouldn't have taken someone determined to work out the passwords.

For a while I was rather worried..

Anyway, I have found it again :upsidedow

Yesterday I had been asked to look for something an a file of papers. To keep the file open at the correct page guess what I had used? My hard drive.

I then went and put the file back on the shelf, forgetting the hard drive was still between the papers of the file :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Fucking dumbass!

Start using cloud backups

exactly my :2 cents:

alex.missyouth 09-27-2013 10:50 AM

Have a copy of that info on all your personal computers. Pass protect the file, problem solved. No need to store personal data no a site.

Elli 09-27-2013 11:16 AM

My man has an external dock on top of his computer tower he used for the same thing. Once a pencil rolled off his desk onto the drive as it was writing. POOF. no more drive. Everything corrupted and unrecoverable.

ProTip: keep your external drive in a safe, unbumpable location while it's plugged in.

Sorry for your loss :(

marlboroack 09-27-2013 04:40 PM

It was prob stolen dude.. That's information people would puchase
