they will make better one :)

Tom_PM 09-24-2013 09:17 AM

They want to buy stealth fighters but I guess we don't want to sell them? That's what I got from a quick glance.

pornguy 09-24-2013 09:36 AM

The reaction to that from the guys at boeing would have been beyond priceless.

SK is looking for a bargain. They have money for an Escort but want a Mercedes. :1orglaugh

No, they want to buy 2014 Corvette. Instead they are presented with 1980 Chevy Camaro with few cool looking stickers and ricer tail pipe modification. They already have plenty of 1980 Chevy Camaros from previous garage sales.

Rochard 09-24-2013 03:24 PM

They are correct. The F15 has been in service since 1976. That's over thirty years ago.

No body wants to be a thirty year old jet fighter.

So they want to buy a 2014 Corvette with 1980 Camaro money?

Can you quote the part where South Koreans claim they want 5th gen stealth fighter for price of 1980s scrap metal junk. Please do because I cant find it.

Phoenix 09-24-2013 04:12 PM

The feeling here is that they get forced to buy old generation crap.
They don't want to buy crap. They have the money to buy what they need.

It seems they don't according to that article as both the F22 and the euro fighter were knocked out of the bids early for being too expensive.

When someone says something is too expensive it doesn't always mean they don't have money. I have no dog in this fight, except for being in Korea right now.

Just saying what the news and the people here have told me when i asked about this.

It's called reading between the lines. They rejected two other offers of current generation fighters because they were too expensive. Now they are getting bids on fighters that they agreed on for a given price, and are now balking because they are not precisely what they want.

If they want current generation fighters, they will either need to pay more money or reduce the quantity of fighter that they want. For their needs, the second option seems like the better one.

I don't understand how they were forced? And if they have the money to buy what they need, why didn't they go for the other offers?

Or are they saying that Boeing promised stealth capabilities on the 15?

Its called doing a bit more than just glancing at one Yahoo article.

Under South Korean law, only bids under budget are eligible to win defense contracts.

The South Korean government and air force will map out a fresh tender process and consider a new budget. The defense ministry said it could take around one year to complete the new tender round.
Unlike US they cant just say "fuck it, we will pay contractor 5 million dollars to import sand into Iraq so troops can play beach volleyball". Looks like they actually have to consider spending, vote on it VS just printing more money.

Let me ask about it. From what i hear, in the past they keep getting forced to buy stuff they dont want. I understand that, when you guys want a deal on lumber you do something to force us to take the deal. Remember the beef scandal? that was awesome.

I guess Korea is starting to get pissed off.
I do not know the specifics of this f-15 deal, but the feeling is there.
Sort of like this--Oh they are probably trying to force their crap on us again.

Korea should just make flying robots that shoot laser guided weapons from their fingers. ;)

Because they are so old school and need "people's approval for new military defense budget.
Perhaps they forgot how democracy works :1orglaugh

why bother with fighters? south korea will always be too small of a country to defend themselves against china, russia and of course north korea.

Then they should fork over the cash. The sale would be a waste on them though. They should put it to better use like fixing their economy.

If US won't sell there are plenty of others who will. In a capitalist world, money talks right?
