Champions League starts this week! Let's have some FUN !!!

The UEFA Champions League starts back tomorrow night so i thought it would be good to make a results prediction thread for each round of games during the group stage, and see who gets most correct.

If someone wants to throw in a prize at the end of it feel free. :1orglaugh

I am an American. I started following the Premier League since I wake up early on weekends and needed something to watch while I cook breakfast and do chores around the house. Became a Hotspurs fan because they were the first team I watched.

I have yet to understand how all these different Champions League and special Cups work.

Anyone willing to help a worthless Yank along with a crash course?

Premier League is the English domestic season, the top league, they play each team in their division twice, at the end, the team with most points is the Champion that year. There is also 3 teams who finish in the bottom 3 who will be relegated to the lower division, likewise the top 3 teams in that lower division get promoted to be with the big boys. The top 4 teams in the Premiership qualify for the Champions League in some form whether it be directly into the Group stage we're at now, or the pre qualifyers.

Champions league runs throughout the regular domestic season but it is the best few teams from each country only, there is 32 teams in the Group stage we're at now, 4 teams in each group, they play each other twice, the top 2 teams go into a knockout phase to play for the ultimate Champion of Europe, the third placed team drops down into a secondary tournament called Europea league which is lesser teams but still good in their own right and the 4th placed team drops out of all competitions, apart from their domestic league. It stretches out over the course of a season and is normally the last fixture of all the European domestic seasons, the team that eventually wins is classed the best team in Europe for that year.

I could go on and on but that should give you a rough idea hopefully.

every country has their 1st, 2nd etc. leagues

every country has their own national cups besides the regular leagues

then there's the european champions league with all national champions (1st league & cup)

and the euro league with the teams that made 2nd to 3rd-6th place (depends on the country) in their national 1st league

Let's just keep it correct score gets a point.

Many of the games in the Group stages should be straight forward enough with some of the bigger teams playing the 4th seed teams.

So i think just a straight correct score on any of the matches to win 1 point.

Makes things that bit more difficult, but someone has to win... :thumbsup

Welcome to the wonderful world of being a Spurs fan :thumbsup

Phrases to remember:
COYS! - Come On You Spurs (not in the biblical sense though)
Yid Army - self given name to identify supporters
woolwich - proper team name for *rsen*l, and always to be spelt all lower case
How did we fucking blow it again - this one will come up a lot unfortunately :1orglaugh - but.... it's what makes being a Spurs fan the most exciting of all - the true emotional rollercoaster of ups and downs, often more than once during any one game as well as over the course of a season.

We punch well above our weight these days though (at least until the new ground is built anyway, when we'll be more on a par with the proper revenue/spending power of the Premier big boys), and are proud YIDS, for life :thumbsup

4 people including you and I went for the draw, with blackallthrough going 1 - 0 home win. I think on a good day man city have the beating of them all day long, but like you say, their play is not great at the moment.
