what would be really good for sponsors to do...

when you get a notification email on signup, to include the customers email address. Is there really a valid reason not to give this, other than greed?

Discuss :thumbsup

A valid point. However we are subject to privacy policies that protect our members. This includes disclosing personal details like an email address to 3rd parties who promote us.

venus 09-04-2013 08:55 PM

what are you going to do with the email address?

Yes, there is a valid reason : It's their data and not yours.

Companies don't give out private customer info out to affiliates.

bean-aid 09-04-2013 10:18 PM

Collect the email on your end, then send to sponsor. If you cant, then you do not deserve email in first place.

Because the email is more valuable than the join. We will do this for affiliates instead of a % payout if they want.

But you get the email as well as, not instead of, the join :)

To do with as they wish, if their terms stipulates sharing the data with 3rd parties so the customer receives the benefits of similar interest offers blah blah etc, which would certainly be an incentive to gain more affiliates

A difference between 'giving out' info to affiliates, and letting them know the email addy of the member they sent. Unless those huge mainstream PPL companies are all as shady as fuck by posting back to the affiliate the info generated on each lead.

I kind of agree, but thought it'd be an interesting discussion anyway. I still don't see a real reason not to share the data with the person who sent that data over, as well as the $ value.

Barry-xlovecam 09-05-2013 07:11 AM

If I get an email address, unless I get permission from that person to share that address with "partners," I am not legally permitted to share it with any others, both by our TOS as well as other company policies and the EU privacy directives adhered to by national laws of The Netherlands.

In the US; the CAN-SPAM act would apply to any resulting actions by an affiliate or other person.

The Privacy statutes in Canada are similar to those in the EU.

DamianJ 09-05-2013 07:14 AM

You'd not be able to mail them legally even if the sponsor did give it to you. So it's all moot really.

A paying customer who has joined your own site then his email is solid gold.

Could you please explain this?

The email is NOTHING if the person will not join a site.

Think it over.

Tom_PM 09-05-2013 07:37 AM

Just set up a can-spam compliant mailer and get email addresses yourself. Sure, you don't know if they've purchased anything ever in their lives, but you're allowed to do it all you want.

What you might want sponsors to do instead is share a unique made-up identifier that tracks trials -> recurs -> rebills for the life of that member. Along with knowing which ad lead to the trials, with that data you can improve your marketing, your percentage of trials -> members, and your value to the program. If everyone's goal is the same, then everyone should win. Not saying official internal member ID mind you, just something for example made up of a time and date stamp plus a sitename or link code variable that gives you all the info. At any rate, good luck.

The paid member's email addy is worth more than the paid member's subscription amount, is what he is saying :thumbsup
