I don't know why but I skipped this movie when it came out in the threatres. Decided to watch it on PPV last night and LOVED it, and watched it for a second time right afterwards.

If you're in the mood for some smart sci-fi, check it out.

My father-in-law wasnt impressed so my expectations weren't high. I thought it was excellent though. Great idea, great cinematography, just a really enjoyable film imho.
Cruise is a bit of an oddball, but he he gets the job done reliably enough

easily one of the dumbest sci-fi flicks with a very VERY hollywood/tom cruise ending with plenty of plot holes starting with the scavs need to clone cruise to begin with.

I agree, it sucked. The people that liked it must not be fans of good sci-fi.

I got it on Blu Ray. It was enjoyable, I loved the cool tech, but when I saw tech that looked nothing like anything humans would design, that sent up a flag to me and I knew it had to have a twist and I was right.
Ending was cool, saw a fee things I missed the first time I watched it, going up on the shelf now!

I enjoyed it until I saw the watch in minute 10:07, it showed a time that was an hour different from the clock showing in minute 10:08. Totally ruined the experience.

Just the other day you were asking about Grey's Anatomy. Not sure I can ever take your TV/movie opinion seriously.

maybe this will help clarify that for you.

Jack and his co-pilot(the red haired chick) along with other crew members the back of the ship(including his wife) are on their way to make contact with the Tet (that giant thing floating in orbit around Earth). When the ship starts to get pulled in by the Tet, Jack jettisons the crew hoping to save them.

The moon is destroyed, which pretty much wipes out all human life on Earth - except for a few people(these people later are "aliens".)

Jack and his copilot are taken into the ship and cloned. These thousands of clones are set up on Earth to manage the Tet's giant machines that extract energy from the ocean. The drones that Jack's in charge of are to protect the clones and giant energy machines, which are always under attack by the "aliens". The Tet has no physical presence that can do the work necessary, so that's why it made clones of the only human samples it could get.

The clones have forgotten their lives and have a new reality which involves taking care of these machines for the human race which has already settled on a new world(if I remember correctly).

you can make it personal if you want, doesn't change the fact everything you wrote is bullshit.

so an alien *presence* can make (and needs to make) physical spacecraft that hurl this *presence that has no physical manifestation yet requires a spaceship* across the universe(s) with this grand military plan that entirely requires cloning, not just their enemy, but the best of the best enemy fighters.

This is what they sold, if you don't want to buy it then that's your thing. But my joke was in reference to you not really paying attention, whether it's a dumb premise or not. There is an actual story there that makes sense.

anyhoo, movieing on, the real lollercoaster moment was when morgan freeman popped outta the box after cruise put his wife in it and headed up to a main ship. wait, whut.

don't get me wrong, it was an entertaining movie, but more in a james bond way- bring bond to my secret lair so we can use an elaborate mechanism to kill him kinda thing.

fun to watch but certainly not smart.

prolly the big plot problem was casting cruise in a clone flick. cruise doesn't die in his movies, so as soon as it was revealed it was a clone movie, which was in act 1, then the ending was shot for me. cruise was a clone and there was at least 1 other 1

I really WANTED to like this movie, but in the end, I thought it sucked just about as much as District 9... maybe it sucked a little bit more. Oh well, to each his own.

Clones all have the same consciousness also, so if the main character dies, one of the other clones can still live the same life with the same memories.

That's a BIG definitely on that "to each his own" thing.

i thought district 9 was a pretty smart film, but as bronco points out, to each their own.

I know... to be honest there was nothing else on and I couldn't sleep so why not...

Another good movie I watched twice in a row was "The Prestige" (Chris Nolan Movie) but only because when I went to bad after watching it, I couldn't sleep because the movie stuck in my head and I felt like I had missed a huge reveal at the end, which I did.

It makes sense to me. These were the only humans they had met and or swallowed up. They destroyed the moon and therefore most of the earth. There's no hint that they were ever on earth. They need the clones to fix the drones.

One possible hole in the movie was that according to the maps you see, there are many "radioactive" zones for Jack (or each "Jack") to avoid, suggesting that there are "Jacks" in each zone, fixing drones etc. It's established that Jack remembers his wife via dreams, and its established that clone Jack has the same dreams. We can therefore assume that all jacks have the same dream, and that probably sooner or later more Jacks will find the one surviving wife. Oblivion Gang bang.

Of course what Bronco67 said makes sense. As for your argument, don't forget that you never see the actual aliens. They may not be physical at all, or, they may not be able to survive on earth for whatever reason.

All you see are the machines that convert water into energy. Jack is told that its for the colony on Jupiters Moon but of course its for the Tet and the Aliens that run it.

Jack recites stanza XXVII of "Horatius" from the "Lays of Ancient Rome" before triggering the nuclear device and destroying the Tet. Earlier in the movie he sais "Everybody dies. The thing is, to die well". He is giving Moran's character an amazing death.

This movie sucks so much. Mediocre, Boring as fuck, truly previsible, etc...

Anyone who liked it, probably doesn't understand too much about good cinema or is easily entertained with mediocre stuff. Nothing personal to anyone, tho... But it's the truth.

I watched Oblivion in Cinema and was truly disappointed, it's way over rated. There are a lot of better movies than this in the same topic, and rating it with 6 points in IMDB would be too generous already. It has 7 points, like many other over-rated movies.

I really liked TRON from the same Director, tho. That was a good one.
