Tebow Cut by Patriots. Could this be the End?

With any luck, that will put the end to the Jesus freak media hype. :thumbsup

There are so many other things, in both the NFL or the world in general, that could better use the attention of the media instead of some holy roller 3rd string QB. At some point you reach the saturation point where people are tired of fucking hearing about him, and chants to play him. Bye bye birdie.

Tim Tebow cut by Patriots as QB failed to take advantage of great opportunity

Last spring, after being dumped by his second NFL team (the New York Jets this time, the Denver Broncos previously), Tim Tebow sat unclaimed on the unrestricted free-agent heap. No one wanted him.

Then in June, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots took a flyer on the former Heisman winner from Florida. This was about the best possible scenario for Tebow. There was no pressure on him to be the starter – Tom Brady has that job. Or even second string – the fairly capable Ryan Mallett is the No. 2.

Tebow's sole challenge was to do enough – either by showing versatility or promise in development – to convince Belichick to keep him as the third quarterback. He was competing with no one, really. Hype and outside influences no longer mattered. This opportunity was a blank canvas with one of the great football minds of all time. Tebow just had to show something to buy himself time to develop his game under the protection of football's most stable and winning environment.

And it didn't work.

The Patriots released the 25-year-old Tebow on Saturday, deciding to carry just two QBs on their final 53-man roster. What the decision says is that Tebow didn't show enough of a reason for the Patriots to bother with him. They'd rather have a backup at some other position.

For Tebow, this is a major setback and one without an obvious solution. This might be it for him in the NFL

no he wouldn't. he simply cannot process the game mentally at the qb position, even at the canadian league level. even at the college level.

L-Pink 08-31-2013 09:19 AM

You mean he didn't bump Brady off the roster? Wow, Did I ever lose money on that bet.

that is the other part of it. that said, even mediocre skills are allowed at the 3rd string level.. but bing cut at 3rd string? wow. that means there is no qb mentality for them to work with or else they'd certainly not leave themselves vulnerable with only 2 qbs. didn;t philly fuck themselves last year like that? i seem to recall at leat 1 team recently running out of qbs.

Excuse me for asking--I grew up in England, and although I love NFL football, I think college football sucks--how is it possible that a guy who was huge in college football (where he won the Heisman Trophy in his sophomore season), can suck so badly in the NFL?

same way doug flutie did. this isn't a precedent setting deal, tebow isn't unique in failing in the nfl. the jump in how complicated the game is at the nfl level is simply too much for most of them. especially at qb these days having to read uber complicated defenses and then change the play. tebow can't read nfl level defenses and he can't remember or understand offensive playbooks.

that's why he's not even of value at 3rd string.

Tebow just doesn't fit in with the patriots.

He's never been arrested. It was becoming a problem in the locker room.

Tebow was GIVEN the heisman... They were 9-4 that year... It's called media persuasion ... Fake it til you get cut.

Yeah maybe the Bills will take him. This year it seems the Bills are going to specialize in pre-empting regular programming more than anything. At least two of their pre-season games were blacked out because they couldn't sell tickets. Sucks being in their viewing area to be honest.

If I want to see Tampa play (did I just type that) I have to go to the game. Every home game is blacked out.

I'm hearing the Bills have grabbed themselves an undrafted guy to start at QB.

The Tebow probably isn't on their radar.

Maybe the Browns can find a use for him? :D

Some team will pick him up, despite the fact he didn't show Belichick anything. There's always a dog team desperate enough.
