PX90 vs Insanity Workout

I see these things advertised all of the time. Anyone use them? If so, asskicked?

:helpme

georgeyw 08-31-2013 05:38 AM

heh - just talking to a mate about these dvds.

First found p90x on gfy thanks to warchild and ended up losing 20kg.

After doing p90x twice, jumped onto insanity and have found insanity to fit me better than p90x.

Whatever you do, if you follow these workouts and eat decently, you will shed kilos and gain muscle!

I see commercials for the insanity a lot more now-a-days on tv if not daily.

What did you like more about the one versus the other? I read a lot of the reviews, and those who had realistic expectations (knowing they were going to have to work at it, and change eating habits) all gave it (PX90) some level of good reviews across the board.

seolinker 08-31-2013 06:34 AM

I did insanity 3 times, first time hardly finished first month, next summer did 2 months full, and this summer planned to do asylum, but they released next 30 days of asylum so it will be for next summer;)

never done p90x, it's a gym for it, after gym insanity also not so hard

i love both to be honest

P90x gave me a great foundation for starting my own personal fitness regime.

P90x is more about weights / bands etc - insanity is all about your body no weights / anything else at all.

Honestly I lot 20kg in my loungeroom from p90x alone. It works if yo ustck to it and do not eat shit foods. By shit foods i mean, if it walks or grows and isn't in a nice neat packet = good start.

P90X yoga gave me amazing gains in flexibilty!Q! Hate and love it :1orglaugh

Paul&John 08-31-2013 07:34 AM

However I still can't do the whole damn thing, I skip around 20 minutes (like the frog etc). And I've started exercising it more then a year and a half ago :)

cherrycrush 08-31-2013 09:44 AM

I like insanity, I've been doing it for a little bit and in the beginning it sucks but after a while the routine flies by pretty quickly

PornDude 08-31-2013 09:58 AM

Depends on how skinny do you wanna get :D

dyna mo 08-31-2013 10:12 AM

i discovered p-90x and never looked back. had been struggling for years to find a exercise regiment i could consistently stick to and i found it. i've done it many many times and in all different variations, depending on what i felt starting the 90 days. currently doing upper body and yoga, so pushups, pullups and yoga. i'll do a 90 day dealio and cool off for abit then start another 90 day tweaked session.

the diet plan is *decent* but simply put, if you are serious about losing fat, then counting calories is very important to your success. and i've found that as long as i stay in my calorie window, p90x is such a rigourous program that i can eat whatever i am craving (i've also found that what i am craving is usually what i am needing these days as well, i.e., if i am craving potato chips i know i am low on carbs) and still be lean and toned for day-to-day and if i have a vaca upcoming or an event i want to look extra good for, i can dial in the p90x a bit more and adjut my cals for 30-45 days and hit the goal.

What was your starting point, and where are you now?

here are some selfies i've shot over time, the first one is my 1st day i ever did p90x. i run 10 pounds over the leanest you see here, i can drop that in 30-45 days easy breezy for an event.

Barefootsies 08-31-2013 11:01 AM

Congrats.

Weren't you the one who was eating Hungry Man Dinners or something in your calorie counting deal? I can't remember if that was you, but there was a thread a few years back and I thought you were talking about calorie counting in it during the work out regime.

dyna mo 08-31-2013 11:08 AM

thanks, i just followed the instructions though. :-) i don't think it was me with the humgryman dinners. those fisr 2x i didn't muck about with the diet plan and ate good solid foods. i still eat super solid, but nowadays both my stomach and my appetite are much smaller so i can enjoy things like potato chips without having to eat a ton.

also, i'm very much type 1 diabetic, the hormone mix required to put on muscle is a hodge-podge for me, if you are reasonably healthy and follow p90x rigoursly, you will prolly gain more muscle than me. that's a big difference between it and insanity also, you get a better opportunity to gain muscle with p90x than you do with insanity.

Interesting. I am not so much interested in the muscle as in regards to the other health benefits. I am really looking more for endurance and general heart health. I know that some people believe that bulking up on some level is beneficial since you will burn more calories that way. But it's good all the same to hear the differences between.

It sounds like insanity does not require equipment and is more endurance type of training, while P90X is more of a weight and muscle sort of training program? While each seem to focus on some of the same core exercises, there is enough variety there in the central theme or focus.

Vendzilla 08-31-2013 11:17 AM

Thanx for the info on this, I'm trying to figure out which I want to go after myself/
I have an area in my garage that I set up a little 32 tv on the wall with a dvd player and cable. Half my garage is carpeted and it's a 4 car garage. I also have a big fan that I can direct on myself. Anyone got a copy of anything I can get from them?
I had a copy from p90x , but I loaded it to my laptop which got stolen.

it's best not to think of it as bulking up. look at it as adding *some* muscle, which is what your goals are, as you just outlined them. it's not a matter of just burning calories more or better, muscles contribute to endurance, everything. ... everything good and healthy in your body.
so look at muscle building exercises as the true core to any healthy exercise program.

when you can do 50 pushups + 10 pullsups and feel terrific doing it is a very healthy day.

the second i dropped my goal of bulking up and adjusted it to exercising and eating to just be healthy was when it all got a lot easier for me.

but the biggest reason to do it all by adding some muscle as the foundation is that for long term, there is simply no other way. it's not just the best way to give yourself a shot at staying healthy longterm, it's the only way. again, not bulking up with muscle but certainly something very much like p90x with basic compound movements.

you do get the same compound movement in insanity, but it's flipped around imo. not enough foundation of muscle, but it's a shorter cycle too. it never took off more me though.

Interesting.

All of that said, you prefer Insanity over P90x for the routine or better results (in regards to what you seek)?

sorry, i meant i find insanity too insane for me in general. it's nutty hardcore cardio. i mean i can't emphasis enough how insane it is. which i realized isn't in line with my goals. i work out super hard as best i can but to be able to maintain that level was too much for me. i want to get in and get out, get my workout done asap in as little time too.

let's face it, if you are working out hard enough in the gym (either aerobic or anaerobic) the gym is a shitty place to be. i don't want to work at that level any longer than necc. and i can't keep that pace anyway over months/years.

when i recommend either of these, i always recommend doing p90-x first, imo, it make insanity a lot easier.

Barefootsies 08-31-2013 12:20 PM

Agreed in regards to your gym remark.

BF, I have done both. If you are not in decent shape to begin with insanity may give you a heart attack. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Insanity, is all cardio, and REALLY intense cardio. You will burn a ton of calories on both. The main difference is P90x will give you a bit more muscle tone IMHO.

I do a mix of treadmill and treadclimber now, but I am looking at starting on P90 first three months, and the move up to the P90X. I do not want to over do it, but at the same time need to step things up for the treadmills. A number of the reviews said that someone not used to these sort of routines should start on a P90 first, then move up to P90X from there.

Good to know the feedback on these various things though. Much appreciated.

Sounds like you are on the right track. You will love to hate P90x. Good luck.

100% agree, start off with p90x and them try insanity after you have finished p90x atleast once.

I'm with you when it comes to the gym dyna mo, I hate goign to gyms and I like being able to workout anywhere - ie insanity / p90x has led to jogging and other bits and pieces and all can be done anywhere.

I have had a similar experience with eating as you mentioned. Eating well but then also adding a bit extra when the body craves more and have not had any problems in maintaining or losing weight.

True insanity is wholly focused on cardio, insanity is shorter times wise too.

I think both insanity and P90X give you a more natural look than going to a gym and lifting weights.

Also BF - set yourself some goals and it makes the workouts far easier. My first goal was weight, then next was enter fun run, next is a few more half marathons and hopefully a tough mudder or two.

There's no difference. Motion is is motion is motion.

Lay on your back and flail your arms around wildly for 45 minutes. You'll get sweaty as fuck and burn the same amount of calories.

I guess doing p90x or Insanity would both be equally more interesting than what I just said, so it doesn't matter which one you get. By the way, I have Insanity DVDs and did it for a few weeks last summer. It's good, and the background girls are hot.

Milan_Quantox 09-02-2013 03:10 AM

Did round of insanity last year, it's a killer :)
