We tried moving all our stuff to free and got less signups. People know its free and know your up to something. They dont trust free sites. Surfers are getting smarter :)

I noticed the same thing, but I found a combination that works really well for TCG:

I push paid trials for the main site, on first exit, they get offered 30 min free trial and on that exit they get pitched their free passwords program. Works wonders on my traffic. It would be great if you guys had a seperate program for free trials actually, maybe at a reduced payout like TCG does?

I'd have to disagree with you...at least as far as our business model. If paid trials are working better for you..that is great. For us the 1 day free trials work better.

When we switched to a 1 day free billing model (with no catches) we saw much improved conversions and far more sales.

www.dollarmachine.com has free trials that pay $35 per join ( if you ask me to move it from $30) and they are kicking ass. :)
