My windows 8 feelings
Its not bad.
You have to mess about with the settings though. had some problems with a prog called hotshot shield. I had to remove it as it put a silly advert on all my browsers. also had to download a prog called windows essentials so I could use a pop3 email account. but if you play around (and it does take a lot of messing) you do end up with a realy great system. boots up very very very quick. you have to pin progs to your taskbar and change settings to show 'my computer' thing. its a bit annoying as I would think those who are not pc savy would keep the settings and not be happy. I think I could get used to this version. ps the internet explorer 10 that comes with it is supposed to be voted the best and safest browser going. |
I'm also satisfied with my PC and laptop running under Windows 8 as well.

Windows 8 is designed for idiots.

but once you spend ages and ages changing settings, you get it like it should be. |

I've grown to like it, but only after installing classic shell.

Ages to set up? Wtf.
Install win 8, start8 ($5), spend 1 minute in start8 options. Voila. Better performance than 7 and never see metro interface again. I don't get the hate. Performance boost is well worth it. Another myth: you do not need a MS account to install and login. And no, it's not the year of Linux on the desktop... Keep thinking that :winkwink: |
I hate it - maybe DVTimes can share some of his settings fiddling with the class because I've done so and it stils ANNOYS THE PISS outta me. LOL Plus, I keep getting Malware up the ass. The machine is an HP and it's great but it also froze up on me last night. So yeah, hate it.
WINDOWS XP FOREVER. |
windows 7.
internet explorer (i forget which version) runs well on windows 7 too. but someone had the bright idea of buying another computer running windows 8 on only about 1.2ghz of processing speed, it just doesn't cut it. if you have windows 8 and feel like you are stuck with it because of second impressions or something like that go and google the patch windows 8.1, that should fix it for you and have it operating how it should be. |
I am a Mac guy, so I don't have a horse in this race personally, and the verdict is still out with me on Windows 8. I guess we'll see what happens with the 8.1 release in October.
What I can tell you, is that of the clients I have sold Windows 8 machines to, about 40% have asked me to install Windows 7 on it, and another 40-50% settle for installing ClassicShell ..... and the other 10-20% either love it, or decide they will adapt to change. I have just as many people who purchased machines from the big box stores, and then come to me to downgrade it to Windows 7. Windows 8 is so unpopular amongst my clients, that I search eBay and Kijiji for dead Windows 7 machines with Certificates of Authenticity intact, and I resell them to my clients for about 1/3 the cost of a new license - since they are 100% fully transferable. |

having to disable hardware acceleration to watch any youtube video, fb crashing, sound disappearing - and all the adjustments hidden away in obscure places which meant googling/visiting/regoogling/revising/following the steps - per each problem. transparent windows appearing in when opening any tabbed folder, window maximising if I hold the mouse-click down for too long - fuck that shit (didn't even get into anywhere near the amount of programs/applications I use), and spending hours and hours fine-tuning it all. Reverted back to xp, and guess I'll have to just live with the RAM limitation that xp brings. Oh, and no outlook express to import my emails either, some wanky livemail shit. Never again will I upgrade an existing system, I wanted to kill people 2 days in - I was literally fantasising about being in a locked room with people who actually worked on win7 and decided users are too dumb to edit their own backed up .txt files, but on the flip side you need to be a semi-(tech)genius to work out how to do it without googling for the instructions :Oh crap |

I use it for several months now. Was strange in start but now i couldn't go back to 7. Pretty stable and offers new cool things:)

Win 7 works fine for me. Not going to install Win 8 in the near future, too many people complain about it.
