The Nixon Tapes: Arch, Fags, Dope
 

Listening to these Richard Nixon tapes is fascinating, in how ordinary and often dumb not only he sounds but everybody he talks to. this guy outside of the clusterfuck Watergate was is supposedly one of the smarter presidents. I'm sure if we heard tapes of Obama and every other recent president they'd come off the same - ordinary people.

This one is a beauty, he's telling some White House flunky about how he was watching a baseball game on TV when some show comes on and it's all about fags - he calls the main character 'Arch', he's stumbled on All In The Family and has no clue it's the most popular TV show in the US at the time.

Listening to these tapes he comes off as a regular middle aged white guy, the bigotry is benign and old fashioned. As far as Watergate goes, he got dealt a bad hand, he personally had nothing to do with any of it, when he did find out what had gone on he had only two options, out his own staff and fire them all or try to cover it up.

One of the things you need to take into account is that it was a vastly different time.... Not that I am defending the man.

If you look at his record Nixon was put in alot of policies that to this day are praised but few know he started them.

But the fact he doesn't know the TV show could be praised... I think a president has far bigger things that he needs to know and worry about.

richard nixon and his associations were what was wrong with america and still are today. richard nixon must have been the most dangerous man to ever help govern the united states of america. he was in a homosexual relationship with a high ranking mobster, yes there was watergate, there was vietnam, how he would put hits on people directly from the oval office, his marriage was in trouble, his wife looked so young it scares me... i can go on and on. he was intellectually competent, but his policy and private life were apparently terrible.

lyndon johnson hardly gets any shit for actually escalating the vietnam war but when people think nixon, they think vietnam or watergate thenafter.

all the anti-war mongers who are yes nine times out of ten left wing don't give a flying fiddlers fuck about war waged anymore. along with the black supremacists who are part of the extemist leftist fringe who don't care about their fellow blacks serving overseas or coming back dead in flag draped coffins.
