Yahoo Overtakes Google in Monthly Traffic Stats Aug. 22, 2013 By JOANNA STERN Google has emerged as the clear winner in the search engine race, but for the first time in more than two years Yahoo is coming out on top in terms of overall web traffic. According to ComScore's Media Metric, which ranks the top U.S. web sites, Yahoo's web properties edged ahead of Google's in unique visitors during the month of July. Yahoo notched 196.6 million uniques, while Google trailed behind with 192.3 million. ABC News has a content partnership with Yahoo. The last time Yahoo led Google was in May 2011, according to ComScore. Yahoo's lead was first reported by website Marketing Land. WHAT TO KNOW In month of July, Yahoo's web properties saw more unique visitors than Google The numbers don't include mobile traffic, however When reached by ABC News, Yahoo said it did not comment on third-party traffic reports. Google did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment. The numbers are not based on just how many people are visiting Yahoo.com versus Google.com. Instead, ComScore rolls all of each company's sites into one bucket. "There is a misconception in thinking Yahoo.com is overtaking Google.com," Andrew Lipsman, ComScore's vice president of industry analysis, told ABC News. "Yahoo owns a lot of different channels. Flickr, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo News and others all roll up into this number." However, Yahoo's numbers don't include Tumblr's traffic, which it acquired for $1.1 billion in May. Yahoo Goes on App and Website Shopping Spree Lipsman said that Yahoo's surge isn't exactly a comeback. "It's not that this has come out of nowhere. This has always been there. Yahoo has usually been a close second; it wasn't so long ago that Yahoo was No. 1." He also said it could be a seasonal leap. Still, the jump for Yahoo represents a continuation in momentum since Marissa Mayer took over as CEO a little more than a year ago. Mayer has looked to improve key properties, including redesigns of Yahoo.com and Flickr. She has also purchased a number of start-ups. But Google might re-emerge as the winner soon, at least when it comes to including mobile phone traffic. "Our multi-platform numbers, which includes mobile with desktop traffic, will be released next week," Lipsman said. "I think people will be looking to see who takes the top spot there, it should provide some boost to Google." http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/yah...ry?id=20036427 |
google is screwing themselves over lately, people want straight up results when they search something, not a wikipedia list
|
So Google does with a few core centralized sites, what Yahoo needs many random sites to do…
|
Google needs to get off YELP's dick. I don't care what a bunch of assholes think about a place I'm headed to regardless of their oh so important opinion.

This is bullshit IMO :2 cents:
First, take into account how many people have Yahoo saved as their homepage over Google... a LOT! Yahoo is full of crazy shit, Google is a search bar. People go to Yahoo.com then go to mail, stocks, whatever... not all there to search. People go to Google.com to search for shit, or they go to Gmail.com for mail. Comparing apples to apples, yes, Yahoo.com would get more daily visitors than Google.com I can tell you from my end of looking at actual search query impressions for ad campaigns, there is less on Yahoo/Bing than on Google.. far less. This isn't for one campaign, but numerous accounts in verticals all across the board from ecomm sites, lead gen, attorneys, car dealerships, etc. If you compare Google and their search network of sites, like AOL, Ask, etc., then Google trumps Yahoo any day of the week, but site v. site, Yahoo gets more traffic. With that said, can they say more people search on Yahoo vs. Google? I would say not a chance :2 cents: |
I switched to Bing a while back.

thanks guys...

this is done on small traffic to say as real data

Google is shit now, stopped using them.
While this is not their end, every empire falls eventually. |

As bossku69 says, this is pretty much comparing apples to oranges and has nothing to do with Yahoo/Bing search overtaking (or even being competitive with) Google search.

100% increase from bing's porntube

But the results from yahoo are not always suitable. I still use Google, but if they remove me another web site. I start to have them in the ass. Google feels like fucking king ... |
I'm using Bing more and more these days.
Google feels too sanitized for my liking...as if they're attempting to tell me what I can and cannot view. |

Since the late 90's Yahoo has positioned itself as a "global media company", whereas Google has focused on search as its core product since the beginning.
Also more traffic doesn't necessarily translate to more money. No medium can come close to the targeting that search provides. Yahoo would need several times the amount of traffic across its network as Google to even start to compare revenue. |
