I've held at least one of those guitars in my hands.

And I'm pretty sure the Cream bass drum I purchased from Ginger Baker was used in the Farewell Concert too.

I was one of two memorabilia buyers for the Hard Rock Cafe in the late 90s.

Put a $3.5 million dollar yearly buying budget in the hands of a 23 year old classic rock fan, and I'm sure he'll nab you all sorts of treasures too :winkwink:

jesus fucking christ man. i bet that was fun. i would consider cream to be one the most significant contributing band to rock & roll ever. it's insane they were an *experiment* of sorts and were together, what, 2-3 years? those musical instruments are very important treasures.

i liked how the narrator on the op music vid describes them as "maybe not the most talented musicians." hahahahahahahahaha :1orglaugh

candyflip 08-20-2013 09:45 AM

And the nickname has something to do with him breaking a guitar on stage. He attempted to fix it right there on stage. While he did this, the crowd did a long slow hand clap.

His manager at the time turned "slow hand clap" into Slowhand, and it stuck.

At one point he auctioned off a bunch of guitars for his drug rehab facility. HRC got all the good ones. I know that either Brownie or Blackie were in the mix.

My boss was featured in one of the Airline magazines as having one of the "5 Best Jobs In America" or something like that.

The job they described as hers, was actually mine and my partner's. She just ok'd things and signed the checks. :1orglaugh

"Beware of Mr. Baker"

I think it is on HBO or Showtime right now but can't remember which. What a freaking career...

Cream, Blind Faith, Fela... anyone one of those is epic enough mountain to climb for one life, but that is just the tip of the iceberg for Baker.

thank you, will search this out. i was reading about cream earlier and apparently they formed the group because each player idolized the others. i love that!

hah, that article was excellent, i had no idea ginger was the drummer for pil!

dyna mo 08-20-2013 02:09 PM

btw, my referring to the band as *the* cream in the title was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the narrator in the op video i posted, he called them the cream and i chuckled.

Nikki_Licks 08-20-2013 03:09 PM

Loved cream, they were one of the best...also liked Blind Faith which was made up of a few members from Cream.....those were the days......................:thumbsup

As they were about my favorite band growing up on Orange Sunshine, I must point out that it is not "The Cream" but "Cream."

if you get a sec, listen to the 1st minute of that op video, the narrator's comments on the band are worth a listen!

Yeah, you could tell he was just reading because he began it with, "simply, Cream." They probably figured no one would notice in 45 years. :1orglaugh

I think that those might have come before me. It's been 13 years since I was there, so I guess it's possible they came after me too.

My biggest buy were the KISS costumes and instruments that they wore / played at the Halloween concert at Dodger Stadium in 97 or 98. They had never released anything before that. I got to hand a $200,000 check to Gene Simmons, who's my idol in more ways than one.

When I left, I was in the process of buying a Fender Mustang that was Kurt Cobain's from his father. They were gonna put someone through College with the proceeds.

Does anyone has a pdf copy of Ginger Baker's autobiography "HELLRAISER" to share??

PS: I would post "Blind Faith's" full album but the cover might get into some trouble around here :winkwink:.
