Imagine driving a hummer in the middle of a combat situation... shells flying, bombs dropping, etc. That would be stressfull as all fuck. Than imagine having a fucking chicken in your hummer, squawking and shitting and freaking out the whole time to add to the stress level. Then suddenly the stupid fucking chicken shuts the hell up and lies down... as you take the first deep breath of relief in hours...

You suddenly think "OH SHIT, CHICKEN'S DEAD, CHEM-ATTACK!!!". So in a rage of panic and training reflexes you and your crew throw on your bio-gear. Then the fucking chicken wakes up and starts it's god-awful squawking again, for the seventh time that day....

There are rules for war you know.
