The Future of Transportation

http://www.realcleartechnology.com/l...ransportation/

This also has the one I posted the other day in it. But 5 others that are pretty cool as well.

_Richard_ 08-19-2013 10:36 AM

bullet trains have been around for years.

Maybe I missed it but where are bullet trains even mentioned in this article?

how is this the 'future of transportation', if it's already in existence?

bronco67 08-19-2013 10:57 AM

I welcome this new way to die.

Nothing in that article is actively in existence. What are you reading?

yes, the suggestion of the paypal finder is a enclosed tube using a vacuum and transporting people at 800 mph

bullet trains use magnet suspension, not vacuum, not enclosed tubes, and fire people at 400 mph.

you'd think that this 'inventor' would simply use currently tested technology that could be added too, but i suspect the point of all this was to start discussion.

This mass transit idea will go the way of all mass transit ideas, south of the border.

Looks cool! Now we will be able to literally shoot ourselves to the other city. :)

Train in a tube looks like the pneumatic tube systems they had in department stores when I was little for moving all the cash around.

for rich part of future world

This isn't a bullet train.

No its not. This is a mag lev train in a vacuum.

This is safer than normal trains because there is nothing to hit. There is alot less friction so wear and tear will not happen as fast. Less friction means less heat.

Thats right they do. Except those used air pressure to move the cash. This one uses magnets.

..or not. Less friction means less energy requirements. Electromagnets push/pull the train instead of diesel fuel.

Here's a cool idea : If they could build this into a super-straight tunnel that would extend from LA to Montreal, the trains could "Fall" at least half of the way to its destination. The only energy it would need is the small push to get it started and maybe a little to end. Gravity would do most of the work.

_Richard_ just can't stop himself from being an arrogant, moronic and misguided turd, constantly pretending to be clever.

Richard, clever people aren't spending every waking moment trying to act clever. They just are.

It would be interesting if they could try a scaled down version used for cargo or something. See how well it works over time before launching people through it.

mikesouth 08-19-2013 12:30 PM

Its actually a genius idea. supersonic travel without the sonic boom....sort of.

not sure how practical it is though because it lacks the ability to move large enough amounts of people to make it practical and profitable it seems to me....

Captain Kawaii 08-19-2013 01:13 PM

It's a great idea but the lowest bidders will be building so, I'll pass.

Cargo first, elon musk 2nd then maybe...

it's not a bullet train. a bullet train is more functional and can grow.. this is a new version of the monorail.

bullet train, btw, is mag lev.

He has no intention of building it, so yes...you are right about it being for discussion.

This is the vacuum tube at the back for people. Pretty simple concept.

mikesouth 08-19-2013 05:59 PM

Current technology wouldnt do it the vacuum tube is there to get around sound barrier issues 800mph is a nominal limit it could go MUCH faster

I remember being in bed one night and couldn't sleep - I was thinking if we could just get rid of the air and cause a vacuum...

I thought I will take note of that - I didn't - I fell asleep.....

Bugger...
