How do i log in to a server thats been setup by someone else

The person that setup the server has left and my host only do Infrastructure they gave me SSH but that does not work.

How hard would it be to gain access to the server again without knowing how its setup.

I have access to PHPmyadmin but not files.

Well then most likely SSH is turned on to a different port other than 22. Call the guy who set it up.

zettagrid

This is what they told me

We sell Infrastructure as a service, we have no control over the host OS nor log in details. If this was set up by a third party, I would suggest giving them a call and requesting access to the machine.

If you have console, connect and do this:
Reboot and enter GRUB
Select the kernel
Press the e key to edit the entry
Select second line (the line starting with the word kernel)
Press the e key to edit kernel entry so that you can append single user mode
Append the letter S (or word Single) to the end of the (kernel) line
Press ENTER key
Now press the b key to boot the Linux kernel into single user mode
At prompt type passwd command to reset password:

You need to mount at least / and other partitions:
# mount -t proc proc /proc
# mount -o remount,rw /

Change the root password, enter:
# passwd
Finally reboot system:
# sync
# sudo reboot now

please be specific ,so others can help, what is the exact issue ?

1) you dont have root password ?
2)you dont have ssh running on server?
3)you dont know on what port ssh is running ?

there are solutions for each one of the case.

but if you have all of the above issues , t hen you are screwed.
