free or cheap mobile tube script
 

I started a small tube site with pimproll's hostedtube with a domain i had laying around about a year ago... It converted great (well, at least i recovered the registration costs in a couple of months with no effort on my side, and the traffic kept growing), but when i switched my domain management to cloudflare, pimproll just disabled my site...

I guess it's in their right to do so (i'm NOT calling them any names, they did NOT cheat in any way), i did violate the requirement of using their nameservers... But i tought i wasn't abusing their service... Even tough i did not use their nameservers, all traffic still went to their servers, i even saved them some bandwith.
Instead of giving me a fair warning ("switch the nameservers back or we'll disable you"), they just displayed a blank page with some generic error message. Took me several days to find out about it (tubes are not my main business), so i lost all the traffic that built up over the last couple of months...
Tried switchen the NameServers back, and contacted their support afterwards, but only got a reply after a couple of weeks. They were professional and friendly, but way to slow (i couldn't wait that long, so after just 1 or 2 days without response, i installed a tube-script on my own server and started over)...

My main problem with my current setup is the fact that it's a .mobi domain. I get a great deal of visitors with mobile devices. This used to work great with hostedtube, since they are perfectly equipped for mobile traffic, but since my migration i got into some small problems.
I currently use wpxtube, which is great, but not really suited for mobile surfers... I changed the templates a bit, but it's not perfect...

I'm the kind of guy who doesn't really want to pay a lot of $$$ when it's only for a small domain with little visitors (you can call me cheap, but i'm not willing to spend $200 if chances of recovering this money withing 1 year are very slim). Certainly not when there are so many scripts out there for free:

tubex (it's open source now, so i guess it's free)
nubilestube (encoded)
hostedtube (will never use again)
stxtube (encoded)

The only scripts that are suitable for mobile traffic do cost a lot of money for a small domain tough (i know, some of these are a bargain if running tubes is your main business, and you're using them on a domain with tens of thousands uniques a day... But not so in my perticular case):

Does anybody know a really cheap (preferably free) script that is suited for mobile visitors?
I basically want a simple script that allows me load hosted videos from my sponsors, and couple them with an add for this sponsor.
It should have a nice design, and automatically switch to the mobile version if necessary. Categorisation is a plus, but not a requirement.

If there is nothing free or cheap on the market that does just this, i think i'll write my own one...

just use responsive web design for the layout and an html5 player with any script and you got yourself a mobile tube.
p.s. sponsored videos will only load if coded right, i think it's h254 or something like that to fit all devices.

takes money to make money. :2 cents: spend a little money for a quality product that has support if something go's wrong.

Good luck, nobody spends countless hours building a quality script just to give it away for free because you don't want to pay.

If you have any traffic and can afford $10 a month you're probably better off self hosting anyway. You can sell the mobiles, popunders and put up your own ads as you see fit.

Did Nubiles Tube not suit your needs in some particular way? I always thought the new versions had most mobile features. I wouldn't be shocked if someone fixed TubeX to handle mobile soon either since it's now open.

I don't mind spending money when it comes to my main content niche, because i know i'm making a wise investment.

On the other hand, i'm a real scrooge when it comes to paying for something i'm not convinced about, even if it's only a couple hundred bucks...

I self-host all my other domains, i like being in controll. Hostedtube was still a good product since i didnt have to invest anything (content, time, design, script, banderwith,...), which was great since tubes arent really my main business...

Thanks for the tip about nubiles tube, i didnt see mobile support on the feature list at first glance, but i might have overlooked it...

If nubiles tube doesnt work out, this might be my best option... Buy a cheapo design, code my own script... Should only take me a couple of Hours since i only want to use hosted content... So i don't have to recode the movies (just find sponsors that offer hosted mp4 with the correct codec), or even use the filesystem... Just basic php/mysql.

I wish it was that easy. :1orglaugh
