Dropbox is fantastic
I tried out dropbox a few days ago just ro see.
Wow. It acts like another hardrive on your pc. And it makes your phone (m,ine is a cheap android) act big. All my apps i use see dropbox on my phone as just another storage device. You can see how usfull it must be for firms who can share and work on one file at the same time. Its nice to do somthing on my phone then save it and then load it with ease to my pc. If you have not tried it (as such services) give it a go. |
Yea ... I use it for years already ....
Great tool. :thumbsup Quote:

Yep, Dropbox is great.
|
Or use this link without ref code lol ... www.dropbox.com ;)

You can see that there is less need for a pc these days when you can access your data with a tablet or a phone.
|
No not at all ...
He could have said ... "Maybe you can use my ref link ..." Or whatever I don't like sneaky things ... Quote:

How does skydrive or BOX compare in convenience?
|
Love that it auto uploads my cell phone pictures. If I ever get robbed I will still have my memories. Aww.

for me its good as I hate to fill up my phone with junk. But now I can remove them from my phone. But for big firms in porn it does mean you can shoot then upload say via wifi then the people at your office can start to work on the pics. Great if your miles away. Also it does seem vey fast. It seems much much much quicker to upload than it would to email the pics or even upload them to your own server. In truth you can easily see a time when rather than shooting vid to an sd card (or whatever) it goes direct to such systems. |
Dropbox features are great. I think it's overpriced. For complete backups there are services like www.backblaze.com that also appears on your phone as well but don't work as easy or the same as Dropbox. Dropbox = bro networking... same league as Evernote.

If he makes a few dollors from it, good for him. To be honest I do think he would have done better to say click this link as it will give you a bit more gigs for free and if you upgrade i may make some cash, as unless i am wrong there are ref codes that do give you a bit of extra gigs free. |

For me its just that it means that I can put common files i use from my pc onto it. I could save it to my phone but it would soon fill up, plus its easer to sort things out on my pc and put things in the right folder. It now means that I do not need a laptop with me. Most places have wifi so it makes life easy. It also means that if there is a group of you, its easy to share files, and your not havig to email each other the same file. I am simply using it as a sort of portable drive. And the great thing is I do not need to worry about loosing it or droping it. I wish it was around when I was at uni as then i would not have had to carry all my files around with me and get stresed when the pc i was using refused to conect to the storage unit i was using. |

I have known about it a while, but its like most things, untill you use it, you just think its not somthing you need. Its like tumblr, it took me a while to see its power. I just thought it was a ruibbish blog that was not much use. It took me many goes till I thought, wow, this is very clever. |
I also like https://www.jottacloud.com/ (no ref link) that gives a bit more space. I've also been hosting a white label version of a OS cloud and picking up a few paying customers, big business still even though dropbox is the market leader.

For me the free version is more than enough. My fear of ruinning my own to offer people is if they use it to store illigall files. |
The NSA thanks you for your support :upsidedow |
If that's still open, I assume US government have access to files as admin, with "word search" tool. I rather install something on my own server :)

I also recommend Dropbox for backing up your server. Not the main backup ofcourse but it's great to have your backup on a few places.
ref link, i get free space when you sign up :) |
Samsung phones and tabs that come with pre-installed Dropbox will give you an extra 48gb for free. Just link the pre-installed dropbox to your account and you will get it right away.
|
Google drive as backup space for me! Is it dropbox better?

I did that with my Galaxy s4 and I got 48gb of free space so that was pretty cool. |
I have ownCloud installed on a VPS and it does all of the important things that Dropbox does and it's all controlled by me for much less.
I have been migrating anything important away from Dropbox and Googlr Drive, which I use as a back up. |
This with my WP ap, I will be blogging like a king!
|
only bad thing about dropbox is that they have the key to your data. not encrypted on both sides. few services are and if you have secure info, then you want that. use DB and love it though.
|
Yeah, dropbox has always failed the security test for me, unless you can bothered using something like truecrypt and synching that file to dropbox. I do that for password files and critical information but basically all that "cool transportability" comes at the cost of security.
Fine for some stuff (photos from phone, bookmarks etc), not fine for stuff you are legally obligated to keep safe (customer data, model data etc). |

Dropbox is great... I've got those 50GB extra for 2 years with my Galaxy S4...
I use it daily... And I'll upgrade for sure once the 2 years expire... I also use Amazon S3 for storing large amounts of data that I don't access frequently... (old pictures, backups, stuff like that) |
