Anybody see the new Sci-Fi movie Elysium?
 

I heard it's good:



Special effects look awesome and who doesn't like Matt Damon and Jodi Foster?

Have to see this one in IMAX 3D. :thumbsup

We attempted to go see it earlier...fucking Cineplex theatre was only showing it on the AVX screen at a premium price.

I heard it's sub-par for sci-fi

I'm not a total Sci-Fi geek, however I get easily bored with Transformers all-action type movies, and I really don't care to see another remake of the 7th sequel to a comic book. :upsidedow

I generally base my viewing decisions upon trailers and BTS featurettes (which I often enjoy more than the movie):

A reason to watch it: same director of District 9 ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/ ). But reviewers say it is mediocre not compareble to D9 awesomeness.

I didn't see District 9, so I can't compare the two. I'm seeing mixed reviews too, however Elysium appears to be off to a decent box office start by taking in $30m this weekend (compared to the list of duds so far this year...RIPD, Lone Ranger, White House Down, After Earth, etc).

It was an OK sci-fi movie, with a heavy handed political message -- but some really sweet, gory kills. No one can make people blow up like Neil Blomkamp.

Jodie Foster's weird performance took me out of the movie several times.

On my watch list! Oblivion was good, after earth watchable somehow, the colony "short" and world war z not good...

Riddick(matrix-like speed) vs Alien(lookalike) reminds Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris:

Great cast, compelling plot, and the direction is fantastic. Really good sci/fi visuals. Less about sci/fi, more a statement about our money-crazed society that values stuff more than people.

Its on my list...

Question for those who saw it- are these two classes totally divided without class mobility? Did they mention comparative advantage?

I'll definitely watch it, looks cool and I missed seeing Jodie Foster.

is the message as clunky and as badly handled as in district 9?
