Setting up an RTMP server for direct streaming capabilities
crtpmserver/Red5/Wowza/nginx? Which one would you recommend for a site looking to support one to three upstreams and have them output via jwplayer (or another?) on a html page.
looking for stability and low cpu resources capable of working on a vps running freebsd. will be using OBS/Xsplit/Wirecast to cast from webcam. thanks |
for plain streaming to a jw player >
free crtmp is easier and less pain to handle and install then wowza (wowza is javascript) if you want to transcode for mobile streaming there wowza has a build in transcoder out of the box, and crtmp starts to get more complicated..but its possible with crtmp too... |
thanks jimmy, i'll have to look more into crtpmserver. i was pointed to nginx initially and red5 looks a bit too complicated and bulky.

decided on going with OBS for the uplink... you know, for the price of wirecast i was greatly unimpressed.

one of the major cam site i know is using wowza
|
Flash media encoder and Wowza.

I've used wowza and nginx streaming before. If you only want to stream videos, go with nginx pseudo-streaming - I used this module to do it: http://nginx.org/en/docs/http/ngx_http_mp4_module.html. It is very easy to setup, but its pseudo-streaming.
If you need live streaming, you should go with wowza. You won't be able to stream live videos with nginx anyway, since nginx does pseudo-streaming. |
