Shot to Death by Police for Betting on a Football Game?

Heavily armed SWAT teams are increasingly used for such small tasks as raiding poker games and trying to stop underage drinking. How did we get here?

Rise of the warrior cop is an excellent book. One of my neighbors is Miami SWAT and he says that they go out for the dumbest little small time warrants, just so the chief can justify the budget.

So the US police thinks that the best way to prevent kids from drinking is to kill them? Did I get it right?

Typical use of shitty wording in an article to get people to read it.

This is the reason he was shot.

On the night of January 24, 2006, Baucum called Culosi and arranged a time to drop by to collect his winnings. When Culosi, barefoot and clad in a T-shirt and jeans, stepped out of his house to meet the man he thought was a friend, the SWAT team began to move in. Seconds later, Det. Deval Bullock, who had been on duty since 4:00 AM and hadn’t slept in seventeen hours, fired a bullet that pierced Culosi’s heart.

Not for placing a bet.

100% success rate for the ones they kill. Hard to argue with that.

It has everything to do with betting. That story is sad.
