The GFY Ticker (for Amp)

Here.... http://www.uberads.com/GFY_Ticker.zip
No warranties, but a working GFY Ticker as Amp described in http://gofuckyourself.com/showthread...ghlight=ticker

Download it, unzip it into a directory and fire up the .exe.
You can set the refresh time and see the front page of "Fucking Around and Program Discussion" update in almost real time as it scrolls away on your desktop.

I am open to suggestions on this thing, i'll probably do a round of tweaks and then put in a real installer instead of just a zip.

ENJOY!!! and let me know what you think.

gornyhuy 02-27-2003 06:55 PM

OH yeah...
I haven't tested this anywhere except on W2k with IE already installed. IF you have any problems, let me know what they are. IF you have a mac... Sorry.

Pipecrew 02-27-2003 06:55 PM

I would if i wanted to load an exe file

So am I.... could be becasue of my lan.

What ports does it use?

xanx 02-27-2003 08:04 PM

I got it to work after putting this file in windows/ststem32 folder of XP...

http://www.x10.crevier.org/homeseer/kb/1013/msinet.zip

Now all it does is give a link to a paypal addy though

Voodoo 02-27-2003 08:08 PM

Cool... it scrolls a PayPal link! Nifty!

Roberto 02-27-2003 08:10 PM

Doesn't work here, xp pro, what runtimes does it need?

Add a keyword filter so you can set it to show only posts containing for example 'programmer needed' and you have the ultimate spam tool :Graucho

gornyhuy 02-27-2003 08:15 PM

Now successfully tested on windows98 and windowsNT machines.
(both with IE already installed) I don't have access to any XP machines.

Pipecrew: 100% certified ad-free trojan-free dialer-free... But whatever man.

Chong: "Component 'MSINET.OCX' " is the activex plugin that comes with internet explorer. If you have that installed, it should be available. When I tweak this thing up I will make a larger download available that has all the extra shit packaged into it, but instead of 40k it will be 1 meg or so to download.

Nofx: you don't have to donate, that was just me being goofy and holding my hat out... If all you see is the donation link then it sounds like you aren't actually running the starting the program.

Heres what you do:
1)download
2)save everything to 1 directory
3)run the executable (don't worry about template.html)
4)Controls ---> Go

It should then connect to GFY on standard http port, download the main page, and parse it, and scroll the posts for you.

PicIndex: Cool, thanks for the suggestions. I can make an 'always on top' option and maybe set the scroll speed as a setting.

MonkeyMan: It shouldn't be any different than a web browser. Should go right through firewalls, lans, etc. Should use your standard lan/internet connection.

Xanx: Cool! You are the man. Maybe I'll just include that in my distribution package.

I'll make those changes this weekend. Any other comments?

Lane 02-27-2003 08:23 PM

for me it only displays the template file you included in the zip.. doesnt list the threads or anything

gornyhuy 02-27-2003 08:27 PM

Hmmmmm.

Not sure why it is only showing a paypal link. That's fucked up. I'll have to package it up with the right runtime shit.

This is what it is supposed to look like when it is working:
http://www.wackster.com/images/screen1.gif

The white section with the links scrolls up through the entire first page of posts. You set the update time and it just cranks.

For what its worth, it works great for me! he hehe.

nah, if the thread title is 'programmed needed' then obviously it's a 'spam me' post, and it will increase the pageviews and post count of the board so more people will know what threads interest them and post more often.

And also an exclude filter for common threads that get repeated a lot and you usually skip. (for example threads that have: 'hotmail mailer') etc.

galleryseek 02-27-2003 08:30 PM

is there anyway you can make it figure out the most active threads and list most active to least active.

solved my problem...thanks

gornyhuy 02-27-2003 08:38 PM

Chong, does that mean its working for you now? You are getting the posts showing up and scrolling?

So far suggestions for my weekend tweaking are:
1)Keyword Filter
2)Always on top option
3)Scrolll Speed Control
4)Package up all the right dlls and whatnot to make sure it works
5)test on XP

Anything else?

GallerySeek: i can't think of anyway I could moniter thread activity. Probably Lensman and company have access to that kind of info through the BB software, but I sure can't get it just by parsing the site. I'm open to suggestions.

Yes sir, all is well.

is it possible to make the window resizable?

xanx 02-27-2003 08:40 PM

All I'm getting is the paypal sentence to scroll. I'm on XP and I'm trying to figure out now what I would be missing for it not to grab the threads..

That did the trick for me :thumbsup

It's doing the opposite for me, it pulls the threads but the paypal link doesn't appear :arcadefre

You can do it by picking up the 'views' number for each thread and sorting them from > < or maybe posts/views ratio.

EscortBiz 02-27-2003 09:07 PM

works nice for me on Win2K pro (just scrolls too fast)

Pipecrew 02-27-2003 09:12 PM

Looks great dude

421Fill 02-27-2003 09:25 PM

Not working for me either... just scrolls the paypal link. I'm on Xp Home Edition and IE6. I like this idea, though. :)
