TOR compromised? Bitcoin crash?

Don't know if this is true.

http://boingboing.net/2013/08/04/ano...shut-down.html

FreedomWeb, an Irish company known for providing hosting for Tor "hidden services" -- services reached over the Tor anonymized/encrypted network -- has shut down after its owner, Eric Eoin Marques, was arrested over allegations that he had facilitated the spread of child pornography. Users of Tor hidden services report that their copies of "Tor Browser" (a modified, locked-down version of Firefox that uses Tor by default) were infected with malicious Javascript that de-anonymized them, and speculate that this may have originated with with FBI. Tor Browser formerly came with Javascript disabled by default, but it was switched back on again recently to make the browser more generally useful. Some are predicting an imminent Bitcoin crash precipitated by the shutdown.

Hmm... I have JavaScript disabled by default in all my browsers (I don't want to catch viruses from anywhere). Why the hell the Tor users have it enabled? Are they dumb or there is something I don't understand? And what exactly has happened to Bitcoin?

no sign of crash so far, in fact it's at almost the highest price in weeks...

Pretty much this. If you are using Tor and you have javascript enabled then you are being stupid. Some sites might force you to use it but in that case you need to decide whether it's worth it and then enable it only for that site.

Yea, It looks as if TOR and the Silk Road were shut down, I don't think that would mess with the price at this point. Bitcoin is on other platforms and is being used as an investment.

Tor has been working for me all day. I use it to browse around and to post here.
