Anyone still buying DVDs or Blu ray?

I can't even remember the last time I bought a hard-copy of a movie. I used to say I'd buy them for my own personal favorites, or "classic" films I love but now it's to the point where pretty much everything you could want is on demand.

Now, having just said that, I actually pre-ordered the new Pearl Jam CD as a hard-copy. I guess it's probably because I want the physical liner notes, artwork, and not just on my screen.

I buy them and rip them onto my media center and the originals go back in their boxes and go into storage in the attic.

I also burn the stuff for the kids onto crap discs, because they destroy them.

I couldn't tell you the last time I purchased a physical CD though.

Only Blu Ray

Rochard 07-30-2013 08:06 AM

I still buy DVDs.

I watch DVDs in multiple locations in the house, and not everything is hooked up to the cable connection and or the Internet. In my master bedroom I have a TV with a DVD player that isn't hooked up to our cable connection, and I watch DVDs there at night.

It's ironic that your kids may destroy a few discs, but you're going to destroy all of them by "safely" storing them in your hot attic. The extreme heat in your attic will warp your CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays.

The wife and I still buy DVDs and CDs.

Most recently bought the new Van Halen CD - A Different Kind of Truth.

And the latest DVD was The Avengers (I collect all the Marvel movies).

My attic is not hot. It is insulated, ventilated and air conditioned :winkwink:

And even if they were destroyed, I've got everything backed up twice on the network.

I have some great deals on Asian blu rays and dvds. PM me. Uncensored, region free.
I think its a generational thing. Many people are still buying.

I'm taking over a 1200 sq ft loft / studio from a photographer friend at the end of next month.

I can't get shit done at the house as it is with three kids under 5 running around.

Redrob 07-30-2013 06:40 PM

Go figure.

Great program. Ripped most of my collection so I can watch it on my iPad, iPhone anytime I want. I used to buy DVD's all the time, but now I don't unless its something I really want then I buy the BluRay. I love to get the digital copy with it so I can have it online.

Sly 07-30-2013 08:14 PM

I just ordered Planet Earth BluRay. This minute ripping The Dark Knight Rises using DVD Fab, great program, worth the cash. Adding my collection to my NAS so I can stream across my network using Plex.

ErectMedia 07-30-2013 08:21 PM

Spent quite a bit at best buy in the last month so got some free points so went and grabbed a few free blurays this week. Prices so cheap now like $7.99-$14.95 for brand new shit so I still buy them.

Colmike9 07-30-2013 09:16 PM

They're better gifts than digital copies/cards.

dillfly2000 07-30-2013 10:56 PM

I still buy blu-rays but only if I absolutely must see it in full untainted quality and or 3D.

But I would probably never buy an "old" DVD ever again.

I usually only watch a movie once, so buying one is really for collection sake.

Crazy Enough 07-30-2013 11:08 PM

not at all, everything I have is digital

Scott McD 07-30-2013 11:29 PM

Yup I still buy Blu-Rays.

Some movies I just like to have a proper hard copy of.

Same as some music CD's aswell...
