Did Google punish mainstream sites like they did adult ?

Some of you know I'm building a non-nude / fitness site. Does anyone know if Google dropped the hammer on mainstream sites or did they just give adult sites a beaten ?

Thanks !

We all got hit, no matter what type.

It seems like they are constantly favoring the big brands more with every update. They never come right out and say this but it always seems like the effect just a little bit more each time. It's not adult alone.

In adult I think most of us get fucked more because we have 30 second to 5 minute clips or photo blogs and we are competing against tubes with 50,000 50 minute videos. Google favors the tubes heavily as they make use of ToS and bounce data.

My bounce data wasn't the best ! - I am noticing Google and the other searches starting to come back 15 - 20 hits a day. It's better than nothing as I did take a 80% kick in the ass loss of traffic.

I'll keep my new site non-nude to see what happens. I can always flip to adult at any time.

Thanks !

Actually they did come right out and say it. Have you never watched a Matt Cutts video? He says it quite often that Google is going the way of brands since they spam less.

Big brands have been the favorites since 08:

Google CEO Calls Internet a Cesspool, Thinks Brands Are the Solution
BY MEGHAN KEANE10.08.089:13 AM

The Internet may be a cesspool, but its Google’s cesspool. Speaking to a group of magazine executives at the Google headquarters, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said yesterday that the Internet is becoming a breeding ground for false information, reports Ad age. But trusted brands help weed through the disinformation:

"Brands are the solution, not the problem… Brands are how you sort out the cesspool."

Schmidt was trying to quell fears that Google is trying to take over the role of publishers and advertisers online, saying: "We don’t do content. You all create content. It’s a natural partnership."

But he reserved a few fighting words for members of the Association of National Advertisers who opposed the company’s proposed deal with Yahoo on the grounds that it would limit competition and raise ad prices:

"If you’re going to criticize us, criticize us correctly. We’re guilty of many things, but that’s not one of them."

Not sure if that's relevant... no... let me put it this way... I have a steady bounce-rate
between 5 and 10% and google still treats me like a fucking disease!

What's tos and what has that to do with google?

Bman 07-29-2013 03:57 PM

they are hammering everybody unless you are taking to building a network, offering info for free other then that they are dinging everybody else in hopes they will pay for adwords...unless you have a brick and mortar the chances of you ending up on the first page are pretty well zero for mainstream these days

Time On Site - ToS. Google can estimate it by looking at data from the click tracking on results which they do. It is believed that a large portion of the algorithms use ToS.

no matter what you search for nowadays, all google ever brings up are youtube, dailymotion and the occasional ebay pages.
google really is crap as a SE now, its just a real shame that the average surfer hasn't realised yet.

My tos are not the greatest. My adult site has pages upon pages of quality high pixel content. I going to try not to give a shit what Google wants and build my new site killer, that if I was surfing, I'd frequently stop back ! - I'm working on the bikini pages now.
<h> tags, new titles, descriptions, clean code, fresh quality content and right to the point !

My feelings on Schmidt are that he's been brought in to be "the bad guy", so that Brin and Page can keep their reputations untarnished. Many of Google's more unpopular measures have been brought in during Schmidt's tenure.

Schmidt's view on privacy concerns is "well maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place". It was also Schmidt who represented Google at the Bildeberg event in the UK. It's like he's the caricature Zionist capitalist, so that Brin and Page can continue to look like the same nice guys who started Google.

To answer the OP's question, Panda and Penguin are not specific to adult, even though more recent penalties have disproportionately targeted adult.
