An Appeal : Let's Opose Together Adult Censorship in the UK before it's too late!
Lets Sum It Up What Adult Censorship In The UK Means For You.
:warning Adult sites and other sites that contain adult content e.g. gfy.com and other webmaster boards, deviantart, 4chan, most of sites that have user created content will get inaccessible in probably over 90% places with public internet access (all public hotspots, hotels and other accommodation, well everywhere just you name it). :warning People in order to access that sites in their own private homes will have to contact their internet providers and ask for opting out. Your name may end on some list, your family and friends will get to know that you have opted out. Some people will opt out but some will not. :warning Less quality visitors (English speaking with money and credit cards - 63 millions officially but probably much more and even not counting people temporally visiting the UK) to all your sites which is equal to less money. Check your traffic and sales stats in order to get an idea what kind of percentage it is. Why? And why I’m sure about it? Just think about it. People who not opted out will seek other ways or sites that will pop up even with filter on. This will be rogue sites that popped just yesterday and were not yet added to the list with your stolen content to watch for free. Other ways may include p2p, torrents, buying pirated dvds or borrowing these dvds from friends. :warning Happy and stupid parents will think the job is done for them while their kids will find the way by using proxies, p2p exchanges and many other ways (but the people who came with this stupidity censorship had no idea about how the web function so they will just blame it on others as usual) This filter will not safe any kids from seeing porn. Only parents and schools may do it by installing appropriate software on their computers and supervising their pupils which is the only right and reliable way to do it. :warning So what it means for you as a surfer... not much unless you're located in the UK or you're visiting the UK then it's just a more hassle to access your sites, of course you will opt out in your own home but accessing your daily stuff (I don’t even mean here porn, but your affiliate stats, your forums, news sites etc) in public places will get tricky and it will slow you down. :warning What is the biggest danger of this? I think it's that this might be the beginning of restrictions and more may follow, they will create various blacklists and more filters that may have no option to opt out. Other countries may follow the trend once they see the way. And it's not what society wants but we know they once elected don't care anymore about what common people want. :stop What can be done? 1st step I guess would be to say NO to this stupidity by gathering 100 000 votes under the opposing petition, put the link to the petition in visible place on your site with a note explaining what will happen to your visitors from UK once this will go live. It costs you nothing to put that link up for a few days on your site, does it? https://submissions.epetitions.direc...etitions/51746 <- The Link To The Petition. https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1116449 https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1116439 https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1116070 https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1116330 https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1116199 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interne...United_Kingdom http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...web-users.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/ar...line-porn.html http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...e-8726991.html |

I support the cause of this thread 100%. Whether or not IT will be enough to wake people up remains to be seen. |
where was this fuss when the exact same thing happened with smartphones? Fuck all happened to hurt anything then, and fuck all will happen this time a) because it's unworkable b) because even if it did happen, people will opt out, exactly like they did with their mobile phone network provider with zero effect on porn slingers, or porn surfers.
Out of interest, if there were tons and tons of tubes with thousands upon thousands of hours of real gore videos, freely available with the click of a mouse to anyone with an internet connection, mentioned freely in mainstream media, would that sit ok with everyone? Genuine question. |

And this is exactly about it. About freedom of choice! 99% of open minded sober people do not like to have their internet access censored. Let adult people decide what is good for them and what is not. And parents... if they cannot sacrifice 1 hour of their precious time to make sure their kids will have no access to adult materials then I think they should never be parents in the first place. Period! But the British government just announced it and did not give people the freedom of choice. This is not right for democratic, civilized country. As I've already said there are other much more reliable and right ways to protect minors from the evil internet. All it takes is a good will and a few minutes of spare time. 1 - All most popular operating systems have user profiles, it's easy to set up a profile for minors with an access to only white-listed websites using either system settings or an appropriate application, then assuming the profile has no administrator privileges it's not possible to change any of these settings. 2 - There is a proper filtering software created for this purpose already. Period. |

Or to create safe access-points for them in schools, libraries etc. and on home computer a user profile with the right settings and no administrative privileges to change these settings would do the thing... instead of making it unusable for everyone which is probably the silliest idea related to the Internet subject that any European government came with ever. By the way, the number of votes is speeding up. It was usually below 100 last 2 days and now there are hours I see with over 300 votes per hour. And it's already 28.500 votes. Much less votes per hour is given though late night obviously. |
oh yes, I'm not advocating it, I'm just saying, its not even important nor is it a big deal if a teenager or younger sees naked people. it will not effect them one bit. This is a ridiculous argument and a poor excuse to dig there noise in everyones business.

However, this is a personal thing of every parent how to rise their own kids and I let them to decide. If they don't want their kids to watch it then let they take care of it in their own homes. But it's not a right thing to censor everything for everyone. This will bring only problems that clueless politicians has no idea about. I do not want to live in a country where I cannot freely access my favorite websites (like gfy.com) anywhere and I'll bet most people don't want it either. |

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-23452097 http://www.zdnet.com/huawei-privacy-...on-7000018662/ It seems that the technology that will be used to filter the Internet will be provided by Chinese corporation Huawei, similar technology (if not the same) to the one that powers "the Great Firewall of China" . It's also same company that the US government accuses of spying and recommends to not use for strategical telecommunication purposes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huawei#Security_concerns It sounds like China could possibly use this to spy for various purposes like business information, technology patents etc. I guess probably all connections would be routed through this technology (no matter if the filtering is opted out or not) which means slower connections, errors in connections and surveillance. |
so no answer to my smartphone question then, which had zero impact, just like this will have no impact if it even gets implicated. How this is 'censorship' is beyond me, but then 'one more step to still have access to all the porn you could ever watch in 100 lifetimes' doesn't have quite the same sensationalist ring to it, does it.
To repeat, this has already been done across the whole of the UK with any mobile phone provider, years ago, without a peep from anyone, nor any detrimental effect to porn sites or surfers whatsoever. But yeah, I'm just 'pro censorship' lol. |

I was hoping they ban all other porn sites apart from mine, possibly even redirecting all porn searches directly to WeHatePorn.com was my game plan. After all, they put heroine addicts on methadone :winkwink:
Just kidding, great thread Cyber Fucker :thumbsup |
I think that every person should sign this thing, sign for your brother, your sister and your mother.
Fuck censorship, if it bites in the UK the rest of the world will follow. |

I've been saying this for 15 years now --- we as a society, not just this industry but everyone, the movie biz, everyone who enjoys seeing films, etc, we all have to keep a close eye on the censorship movement at all times. Because left unchecked there are people in the world who would hack, dub, and slash everything they personally feel is 'questionable. Songs, movies, porn (especially porn), and now we're seeing that that includes even your right as an adult to view it.
We saw it rear it's ugly head just a few years ago when CRT, the governing body for Canadian radio and tv standards, banned the playing of "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits because of the word 'faggot' in the lyrics. That ban was instigated by ONE complaint, from a guy in Newfoundland if I recall correctly. Turn a blind eye and they'll eventually come for your sites and content too. Think it can't happen? 17 replies to this thread is shameful. |
