TV Show Lost fans, inside.

Okay, I'm a little late for this train, but I really never paid much attention to this show until it was like 3 seasons in, never seen an episode but my mom was hooked on it... So last week I gave it a try, and within the first 4 episodes I was hooked... This show is awesome... Did some reading up on it, and I'm pretty excited... (Yes I ruined the surprise by spoiling it for myself, but I'm one of those people who is excited about a movie/show and then when you tell me the juicy stuff, I'm more excited to see those parts)

I enjoyed it. Battlestar Galactica, The West Wing, The Sopranos, and Lost are some of my all-time favorites.

Sopranos are on my list too while Dexter and Breaking Bad final seasons go on. I hate watching shows while they're airing because I lose interest waiting a week between episodes.

All i know is something about a smoke monster and disappointing ending. But I've never seen an ep. Its on NF so probably will have to catch up.

Creatine 07-25-2013 07:14 PM

Dexter, Arrow, and True Blood are all good shows.

Even if the story went downhill the later seasons, the series had great character development.

WHAT surprise? What Are You Talking About?

the show never could figure out what it was and by the end they had no idea how to resolve it

Rochard 07-25-2013 07:36 PM

I have to buy this....

Problem was, after the first couple seasons they were just making shit up as they went along while trying to sell the audience that there was actually some rhyme or reason to all these mysteries. And so much god damn filler, trying to stretch the plot out into however many episodes.

Really there's hundreds of hours of far superior TV shows - Sopranos, Deadwood, Band of Brothers, Rome, Mad Men, Battlestar (though that went downhill too), Firefly, etc - your time would be better spent with any of those than Lost IMO.

I'm not sure I could have enjoyed it as much if I had taken in spoilers. Even knowing vaguely about the end takes away from the ride people were on when we had no idea where it was going to go. I didn't mind the ending but the journey and all the theory talk with friends was more entertaining than the destination.

I hear you on that for sure. If you like a show and it follows in sequence then nothing beats waiting and watching it all or in chunks.

I gave up on lost at beginning of season 4. I need either a total disregard for plausibility from the outset so I know to switch off my brain or at least a degree of plausibility throughout to enjoy something. I can't stand stuff that starts off ok and then disappears up it's own ass.

Paul&John 07-26-2013 04:03 AM

As opposed to 99.999% of television shows that always make shit up from the 1st episode, consist entirely of filler and provide absolutely no shred of mystery.

He was a ghost the whole time.

I was ignoring this series for years and recently started watching it and I really like it

RubyGoodnight 07-26-2013 05:07 AM

Lost is one of those series that you want to watch through unspoiled at first, then go back to watch again catching all the things you missed the first time around. One of my all time favorite TV shows.

scuba steve 07-26-2013 07:19 AM

honestly lost is great until the last season. then its like they aren't even trying :(

someone mentioned battlestar, that was an incredible series

dyna mo 07-26-2013 07:32 AM

I'm glad I'm in to it. I haven't been hooked on a show like this since I started Breaking Bad midway through the series.

pornguy 07-26-2013 08:35 AM

First 2.5 seasons were great. then it went to total shit and was s complete train wreck by the end.

John-ACWM 07-26-2013 09:25 AM

Never watched it, guess it's a good thing I have the whole show to watch when I'll decide to give it a try.

Yes, but the *entire* premise of Lost was building up all these mysteries that seemed to be somehow interconnected, that there was some underlying "system" and it was a puzzle to be solved. And that was part of the enjoyment of watching, theorizing on WTF was actually going on.

But really the producers & writers were just completely pulling it out of their ass. There are some amusing quotes from their meetings where they're basically grabbing stuff out of a hat and writing it into episodes as major plot points, without any real idea how it related to all the other mysterious shit. After the first 2-3 seasons this became obvious but we all still held out hope they'd really tie it together with a mindblowing ending, which they didn't.

It was still better than many primetime network dramas of course, but with all the excellent TV produced in the last 10 years there are better shows out there (like all the ones I listed).
