Girls I know just bought a school bus to permanently relocate across America, good idea?

Just over 2 hours ago.

It's not my intention to sound like a parent, and it is important to have goals and aspirations. There is a threshold, however.
I met this girl in a gentlemen's club and became friends with her. She told me she was relocating to San Fransisco with 2 of her friends in a van. Well, they bought a bus, a school bus. What do they get on the interstate, maybe 8 mpg if that, not sure if this crossed their mind. School buses aren't practical for taking around town either, maybe they plan to live in it.... :Oh crap
They recently quit there jobs and have little to no prospects other than performing burlesque shows out in California, etc.
While cute, they aren't spring chickens anymore (23-24).

All I'm thinking is a bus you bought and gas mileage, and nobody who understands any mechanics whatsoever on board for the trip...

Maybe I'll tell her to escort me out for a night for a little extra cash... Geezsshhhh
I promise to be a good parent. :pimp

The painted red school bus that they split 3 ways for a symbolic $666 each.

Looks like they are gonna end up in a horror movie or something like the hills have eyes

It needs some psychedelic colors and a few flowers on it and your back in '68.

Sly 07-25-2013 03:19 PM

So you met burlesque dancers at a strip club and are shocked they make poor and irrational decisions?

TheSquealer 07-25-2013 03:28 PM

It's facebook pages like yours that I want tracked by the government so all your friends can hopefully be sterilized by the government.

deltav 07-25-2013 03:34 PM

Sounds fun. Tho at that sale price I doubt the bus will make it very far...

Exactly what I was thinking.

I would love to do something like this. If I wasn't married with a kid... I would buy a van, pack up it up with computer gear, and tour the country...

DWB 07-25-2013 03:41 PM

Looks like a lot of fun full of experiences waiting to be had. Good for her.

Sly 07-25-2013 03:43 PM

On another note, tell us where they end up and whether or not they are hot. Broke midwestern girls with few skills in San Francisco will be stripping or tricking in no time…

Screw the rust, rip out all but two rows of seats and setup a kitchen / cupboards / tv / lounge and beds (mate did this and it is fucking awesome for road trips).

that's what i was thinking...one drives, two film each other in the back, daily road updates....could work?

iSpyCams 07-25-2013 03:49 PM

I would love to do that but I'm an adult so I will get an RV instead of a fugly school bus that is probably very uncomfortable to drive after 5 minutes.

I guess everybody's got their own budget and tolerance levels though. I don't think it matters if its a stupid thing to do or not, if thats they way they wanna have fun let'em do it. If you can't do stupid shit in your 20's what are they good for anyway?

I'm sure they can leverage a little bit with themselves, but like with anyone, unless they have some plan laid out, it simply doesn't end well. Who knows, I'm sounding like a cynical adult now.

rust on the tires concerns me, those are a bitch to get off if you don't weight 200 pounds :1orglaugh

makes me think about the undercarriage, but i guess i am in vancouver where rust would be far more of a problem

That sounds totally fun to me.

If this is a pic of the girls and they are coming through Los Angeles, tell them to drop submit [at] blueblood.net an email because I would totally shoot them.

Fat Panda 07-25-2013 04:07 PM

this is fucking awesome! good for them. nothing beats living on the road, meeting new interesting people, drinkin and smokin dope

I have a feeling that many of you just aren't getting the cost of trying to take a 1800.00 school bus who's best days are far behind it anywhere, much less factoring in the very high probability of breakdowns and the insane cost of repairs. Particularly, when you need a semi truck to tow it anywhere and the probability of having to tow it a very long distance once it breaks down is very high.

johnnyloadproductions 07-25-2013 04:12 PM

Interesting how mixed the opinions are on this decision.

I will definitely forward that to them.

Great, this possibly, sorta, spun into a business thread. :)

5 years ago I did a trip across America on a Honda Rebel 250 (Honda's don't break down from reputation) and on the interstate with a windshield that thing managed 50-55 mpg. That school bus probably gets 6-8 cruising at anything acceptable on the interstate.

Plus, girls that know nothing of mechanics, are easy prey for scumbag hammer mechanics.

You can sleep in the bus, but it's not a good place to live if you want to maintain any kind of decent hygiene.
Also, a bus is large enough that it's not something you can just tuck away like a compact car. Every trip will eventually become a burdensome decision that will force them to think whether it's possible or not.

Sounds like fun, whats the problem? Low gas mileage? :)

beerptrol 07-25-2013 04:37 PM

They can stop and make some gas money city to city

~Ray 07-25-2013 04:44 PM

if its not fuel injected, they will need to know how to adjust the carb everytime they change elevations

I sort of want to hear that this ended horribly.

CaptainHowdy 07-25-2013 06:10 PM

If the bus runs on air there shouldn't be any worries ...

bean-aid 07-25-2013 06:12 PM

Do they have bald tires?

AllAboutCams 07-25-2013 06:23 PM

One done in black would look nice

Nicest thing about an $1800 POS is that if it bites the dust you just pull the tags off and walk away.

Scumbag hammer mechanics are usually easy prey for cute young women.

People have been walking, riding horses, bicycling, and driving all sorts of miserable shit that shouldn't be able to go 5 miles, across this country for at least a couple of hundred years now. It is an adventure and they are at exactly the right age to embark on a trip like that.

Just my :2 cents:

Why? Because you're kind of a creepy weirdo?

I truly don't get the hate in this thread. A few 23 year olds bought a jalopy bus and are trying to drive it to California, this is about as classic American-in-your-early-20s as it gets. I'm sure they'll have a blast whether that behemoth makes it or not.

So much for getting off to a smooth start, she had to cancel a show tonight because of this.
I'm not a sucker to help out with something like this.
At least it broke down immediately and not 1/3 to 1/2 of the way there.

"No show tonight" she texted.

"I had some problems with our bus"

"We are getting it fixed up"

"Yes, we broke a tube or something bc there was coolant everywhere"

"became friends" with a stripper, at a strip joint, where he was probably a customer. How touching.

23 and 24 years old is NOT spring chickens? Jesus fuck. YES IT IS lmao. That's the very definition of a spring chicken. That is what you call YOUNG in life, very young.

New rule. Only people over 45 can decide what is a spring chicken and what isn't.
