That's what I am hearing - Driver had a heart attack/similar perhaps?..

Do they have some sort of dead mans switch on trains?....

Galicia has declared 7 days mourning - I expect that will be extended to the rest of Spain for at least 1 day...

Trains have been "heart attack" proof since the 70's I think?

That's what I would have thought...

This is interesting - They seem to have pulled the audio?....

Spanish train driver 'admitted to going too fast'
Can anyone else get it?..

Edit: I did hear the interview in the end - Very damning indeed - Heads will roll.....

EddyTheDog 07-25-2013 02:32 AM

I just heard an 'expert' say that even if it was some sort of suicide the computers on board should have stopped it happening...

Terrorism?....

SGS 07-25-2013 02:38 AM

Drunk driver?

SomeCreep 07-25-2013 02:43 AM

train was probably late, so he was flooring it, but yep you would think that the people that track the trains, would have noticed at that speed.

Only 200km from me.

SGS 07-25-2013 03:08 AM

He was on the radio telling everyone how fast he was going they are reporting now...

EddyTheDog 07-25-2013 03:48 AM

3 days of national mourning - What does that mean?..

The 'experts' are saying that just can not happen - The driver (and witnesses) have said it did - No more fast trains in Spain for a while...

SGS 07-25-2013 05:01 AM

Just shown the crash happen on Sky News

SGS 07-25-2013 05:01 AM

Unreal.

I am planning my annual trip to Europe this September. I am going to Amsterdam for our annual company meetings then flying to Athens. I was planning a day trip to Corinth from Athens by train -- scenic trip they say.

With the train accident in France last week and now this tragedy in Spain maybe I'll use other transport. Interesting they were both intercity high speed trains though -- coincidence?

I don't think that either are/were high speed trains? (TGV etc)

pornguy 07-25-2013 06:30 AM

This is a news story. A very sad one at that mind you.

Makes all the fuss over a damn Royal giving birth and then the hysteria over the babies name seem a little absurd now...

train driver already admitted that - 190 instead of 80 km/h

the question is why so fast...

That driver is screwed, he's gonna be charged with at least 77 counts of murder if he knowingly went too fast..

JP-pornshooter 07-25-2013 09:49 AM

that really sucks, Europeans travel by train for vacations this time of year...RIP.

i wonder what the statistics are for fatality rate, compared to miles traveled; for airline vs car vs train?

i just heard that he already said that before the crash - which points to a technical problem with the brakes
