Looks cool for $35 with three months of free Netflix.

MaDalton 07-24-2013 03:02 PM

I ordered it from Amazon and they said it would be here tomorrow. Hmmmmm.

Could have ordered from the second batch on Google Play and it would arrive next week.

They said it would be available from today, so I figured Amazon was good for it.

I have a few little Android Mini PC sticks that probably already do a lot more than this, but they cost about $75 and up with a wireless keyboard.

This one is to toss in my camera bag, for streaming shit when I'm outside of the house.

Mutt 07-24-2013 03:20 PM

Very cool - Apple without Steve Jobs is gonna be buried by Google and others.

davethedope 07-24-2013 03:29 PM

why did they choose that song?

Rochard 07-24-2013 03:31 PM

This is what happens when you have more money than god and you pay people gobs of money and say "go make stuff". I bet you for every thousand ideas they have only one of them goes to market.

Rochard 07-24-2013 03:41 PM

Amazon.com says out of stock for me.

kane 07-24-2013 03:50 PM

It is pretty damn cool. I was actually thinking about getting a Roku player, but I might end up getting this instead.

same here. Bought some on backorder

I don't get it - except for its super small size, what is the difference between this and AppleTV? AppleTV connects to your TV via HDMI and lets you watch Youtube, Netflixx, and about 12 other services plus Apple's own TV and movie selections (a few thousand titles) plus stream content from your own iPhone, iPad or desktop computer (windows too), and it came out about 3 years ago.

Sarah_Jayne 07-24-2013 05:42 PM

There is no point in pretending that I won't be buying it. It would be great if along with it they got rid of there being a difference between what you can watch on the desktop version of Youtube and what you can watch through Apple TV or Roku.

Size, price, it's not made by apple, drm free, and it's more modern by 3 years!

I have a full media center PC with XBMC, connected to my ~30TB of in home storage.

I would never buy an Apple TV. But I would totally grab one of these for my backpack.

Just got it about an hour ago. Took all of 5 minutes to set up.

I can drop a .mkv file on the desktop's Chrome browser and it opens right up on the TV.

It's not Roku or Android USB PC, but it's cool and with the 3 months of free Netflix, it costs $11.

I wonder, if you are already a Netflix subscriber so they give you a 3 month credit or is that just for new users.?

There was NO info on the free Netflix stuff in the box and I just read somewhere (LA TIMES) that they're not going to honor that one because of the HUGE demand.

I'd just just opened up a new account.

livexxx 07-25-2013 06:23 PM

3 months Netflix has already been cancelled, too popular, no more freebie. Better get your application in fast if you want them to honour it

GFED 07-25-2013 07:18 PM

I'll stick with a Raspberry Pi... http://www.alliedelec.com/lp/120626raso/

Apple is on a collision course with irrelevancy.

Serious-Partner 07-26-2013 01:14 PM

NinjaSteve 07-27-2013 09:29 AM

Since it's using the home network, I wonder if using your device while connected to a VPN would be a problem.

This is the ONLY problem I have with it so far. Had to shut down the VPN.

At least with the AppleTV and PS3 you can connect to your iPhone as a hotspot and have VPN turned on.
