I hate Microsoft Has anyone heard of Lindows?
 

I am not that technically savy but I do know enough to know that I hate Microsoft. Has anyone heard of or know anything about this operating system?

I think everyone on this board here hates Microsoft. But this board is mostly ubergeeks and perverts.

Personally, I love Microsoft. They created fucking windows, and the masses embraced it. It's because of Microsoft that I can create porn and sell memberships to sites on line.

Lindows is kinda cool for sure. A few of the programmers here at the office mess around with it. Linux blows the freakin doors off Windows, although XP is a bit better than the rest of the crap that has come from MSFT.

Microsoft is not all that bad.
Sure it crashes,
Sure its a heavy OS,
But at least it got most people on the same page.


PS Bill stole the "Windows" idea from apple. not that I'm an apple fan, but credit is due.

Ehm - Microsoft didn't create Windows - Apple did - and then Microsoft stole the idea first - and later paid Apple a small sum...

If I am not mistaken, Xerox was the original GUI creator, even the mouse and the idea of ethernet.

Xerox was the king in ideas, just lowsy protection of their ideas. They need a lesson from the Arcadia folks.

It was the other way around - Microsoft had a hand in the development of Mac OS 1.0, in concert with the Apple engineers. They BOTH stole the idea from Xeroc PARC.

The $150 million that MS gave Apple was stupid Steve Jobs money (that at that point Apple didn't need anymore) - it was a payoff to get Apple to include Internet Explorer with Mac OS. Something Gil Amelio didn't want to do for that little money, and something Jobs did the second he got into office.

I am not particularly fond of Microsoft lately, but it has nothing to do with their OSes - Win2k is top notch, and if you strip the cruft off of XP, it's good as well.

It's their DRM/Palladium/Activation shit. They're getting all police-state-y, and I'm sure Win2k will be my last Microsoft OS.. Linux as a desktop OS is VERY close to being able to replace Win2k. When it gets close enough I'll never use Windows again, except perhaps as a game machine. ;>

windows is here for ever. Lets the average webmaster switch to linux and see how much work they can get done.

Lindows and Linux suck,

I agree they are more stable, and more secure, but for people like me who are not programmers, the ease of use is hard to deny.

I get on to a red hat machine and don't know wht the fuck to do. I like the fact i can get on to my machine, and it is dumb enough for me to use

Lindows is going to get their ass sued to the ground.

As far as having problems with a Windows Desktop or a Server, here is my advice:

I NEVER have problems with my Desktop OS (Windows 2000 Pro), or my Servers (Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003 Beta RC2)

I happen to love Microsoft and admire Bill's ruthless business tactics tremendously. He makes John Rockefeller look like an angel.

linux is the bastard step-child of Unix, cobbled together by too many people, some qualified and some not... now *IRIX*, thats a true Unix OS..!
