I need a new Laptop / Tablet

I haven't kept up with what is out there. I am looking for an tablet device that has laptop functionality if needed. It will be used as a tablet 85% of the time so it needs to be light and have great battery life.

Any suggestions would be great! Want to keep it under 1k

The Samsung ATIV Smart PC 500T Windows 8 Tablet is pretty nice. It's light and has great battery life. You can also get it with a detachable keyboard. Windows 8 is good for tablets if you still want to be able to run your windows programs and not just simpler apps. The lowest price on sale I've seen before so far is $399.

Great thank you!

You could always use a dedicated tablet and then just use a bluetooth keyboard & mouse.

Don't most tablets only run apps? I have to be able to install some Windows applications.

Tablets are pointless, get a laptop www.dell.com

I'd personally get a high-end Win8 laptop with detachable screen which'd function as a stand-alone tablet. There's a few on the markets.

Had 2, both motherboards blew within 18 months, one of them blew 3 times, told it was a common fault. Find Dell to be sturdy and reliable but nowt special.

Those ms surface tablets just dropped in price by $150 because they have been selling so poorly. They are not a bad deal at the new price.

FreeHugeMovies 07-23-2013 07:03 AM

I would rather have a tablet with a detach keyboard that can run windows applications. I don't want a damn Microsoft product.

Are you just saying that or have you actually owned one?

I have and compared to the HP I use to own it blew it out of the water.

I love dell. All of my hardware is Dell. 90% of the time this will be used as a tablet for PLAY. I hate doing real work on laptop and only need it on vacations!

Indeed____

I was considering the surface too, but didn't like the heat and the noise the fan generates. The Samsung ATIV is absolutely silent and never gets hot. I've found the processor is also a huge improvement from prior atom processors. Though definitely some will prefer the surface nevertheless.

Also, the surface cost more than twice as much, doesn't have a stylus and I really wasn't a fan of the touch cover keyboard.

I assume you have one of these Samsung?

How is the actual Tablet itself?

Fling Bling 07-23-2013 11:17 AM

Yea, I couldn't resist the sale price Fry's had on it couple months ago. I'm really happy with it so far, but I did have to exchange it due to a power connector issue, so I'd recommend getting one from a brick and mortar store, where you can easily exchange it if you need too. It's kinda a first generation device and there are some minor issues, but there are tweaks available that I've found online. I just wished it came with windows pro, so you could install media center easily.

I use it with a bluetooth keyboard and a usb mouse when I need to and connect an external hard drive and use a micro sd card for more memory. The windows apps are alright, but I use it in regular windows mode mostly. The device seems pretty well constructed.

Dell may be good in USA but in UK its realky shit machine.... i had dell but as time pass it start fucking up and finally died after exzctly 15 months.... than i tried acer and acer is worst than dell. Now with hp from last 3 years infact all our team got hp laptop and we are happy.

With electronic i think its your luck which machine work best for you. It can die in under warrsnty period or carry on with no issues at al.

The other half got himself the Asus TF300 with the docking station. Between the docking station and the tablet, there's a shit ton of battery time.

He's started using it for meetings and whatnot and loves it.

Mind, you don' have any microsoft products that you can put on there, but there are plenty of apps that can do the same thing.

Yeah.. they were talking about the price drop in the news last week, that Microsoft is thinking about getting out of the Tablet market after only managing to capture 1.3% of market share. Looks like it's going to end up being another BB Playbook.

Fling Bling 07-24-2013 11:13 AM

That's too bad, I really think there's a market for the windows tables, but M$ doesn't seem to be marketing them effectively. There's also a new Acer W3 8 inch tablet that might appeal to the niche market but they put a really bad quality screen on that device, though there are rumors a better screen will be coming out.
