Looking to build a mainstream hockey forum, what is best backend?

Is Vbulletin still best choice at the moment?

I have been liking Simple Machine Forum for a couple mainstream projects lately.

I would like to be a moderator in that forum once you get it running. Hockey is the best sport on the planet.

Yep SMF is really easy to configure and customize. I've had a SMF forum for about 4 years now. I recently sold it though and the buyers let it go to shit.
Gotta stay on top of the spammers..

I'm not digging the new vbulletin at all. I just started a forum using http://www.invisionpower.com/apps/board/

Not sure why vbulletin even exists anymore. IP.Board is infinitely superior.

http://xenforo.com/ looks really good but I don't think it's ready for a real site yet.
