How to raise boys in the era of Internet Porn
This opinion piece appeared in "The Age" today, it contained a paragraph I found particularly disturbing

It wouldn't surprise me at all. My children have clicked adverts while watching Japanese cartoons on youtube before and ended up on a site with very graphic "cartoon" sex.
It is not as if porn is hard to find anyway. When I was a kid, I had to wait till my parents went out and methodically search the house from top to bottom till I found my dad's old Pirelli calendars or a copy of Men Only. |
Have a read of this,Ancient history now but still relevant.

I will tell them how to raise them...either keep them off the internet OR educate them about sex way earlier than they traditionally have done.
|
I wonder what the effect will be on kids' SELF-DISCIPLINE and DETERMINATION. you know, character traits that dictate future success in life...
|
i plan to block almost all sites..including google
net usage will be regulated. what they get from school or friends..will be the same as i got from friends...maybe a bit more hardcore i guess. |

Most of the cartoon and game porn featuring characters that children can readily identify is simply created by other children trapped in adult bodies. The amount of warped webmasters using it as bait is probably comparable to the amount of warped webmasters using CP thumbnails on TGPs to lure pedos and extra clicks from the shock value. |
The Silicone Valley Honchos are doing what is right
The private school in Silicon Valley where tech honchos send their kids so they DON'T use computers Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz2ZJX6xwW6 I would do exactly the same if I had young kids |
Ok article, but seriously, knitting for math and cutting up apples for fractions. FFS, those kids go to college because they see their parents making bank and they know that's their path too.
You're fighting an uphill battle. I was enjoying my dads playboy centerfolds with the girl next door at age 7. It was innocent, we didn't even know what masturbation was. Why are titties so bad, but murder and exploding heads are glorified by Hollywood. It's gonna happen, and I think keeping dialogue open between your kids is more important than anything. My Dad never talked to me about sex, money or relationships. I promised myself i'd listen to them, and keep them talking. |

I had kind of the opposite happen. Years ago I got my elderly mother an imac hoping she would enjoy it for recipes, viewing grandkids and family on myspace, etc.
I noticed she wasn't using it that much and my sister told me it was because of the "filth" she kept running across. I laughed to myself wondering what key words she was using to wind up on porn. Maybe trying to find an ATM close to her house, lol. . |
I do think the ability to see extreme porn so easily at pretty much any age is something that makes it a bit different from previous eras. Sneaking a look at boobs or a centerfold or even a bit of softcore on cable are almost rites of passage. Being able to watch double anal in your preteen years, maybe not so much.
It makes me wonder if the expectations of what sex is suppose to be like are going to altered in an unrealistic way in the generations since it has been so easy. That is for boys and for the girls who rather than facing 'if you love me you would' will be getting 'if you love me you'd let me do <fill in extreme act>. A few years ago, I watched something on the BBC that went to Africa and followed the way that demands on women for anal sex have increased since it has been easier for the men there to view American/Western hardcore porn. It was an interesting butterfly effect type of examination. I wonder how many parents are equip to navigate those waters when they aren't monitoring their internet usage in the first place. |

Of course, she is also the woman in the 80's that wouldn't let us talk when the VCR was recording so our voices didn't get picked up. |
