Blackmonster, not really funny. This is a 19 year old junior in high school. She will be 20 when she graduates. What the hell kind of education system is she part of ???

Here are a few achievement scores from her school:

Below basic is the score when a student is unable to demonstrate even partial mastery of knowledge and skills fundamental for proficient work at his grade level. How in the world will she and most of her classmates find anything but the most meager of jobs? How can any reason for this level of underachievement be justified? How can her community stand having their children's futures become so limited?

What kind of education system is she from...

A little thing that some people know as "no child left behind" which is better remembered as "no child's test score left too low". This is a government program which gives money to schools who meet a criteria which is 100% based on a test score. Teachers are allowed to teach to the test specifically, such as "memorize this, Question 1 is A, question 2 is C" and so forth. There is ZERO incentive to produce superior students, there is ONLY incentive to qualify for government money at any cost.

The priorities of the American public school system is to keep it's funding coming in, and securing the premises in a zero tolerance manner. It's really a total fail as you can probably see with your own eyes.

The old stories about Abraham Lincoln always included him reading at night by candle light. That was in the early 1800's.

Now it's 2013 and 75% of the children at Martin's high school can only marginally read at best. None of these kids have a future.

Any marching in the streets should be about this sorry reality. I'll even carry a damn sign myself. This affects all of us.

Second : the school disctrict allocates the money for teachers and schools.
