amazing book, from my vague memory, the guy worked in the Italian government in the 1500's and picked up a lot of knowledge..i can def relate to this working at ccbill, some cunning, practical, ruthless, strategic, observations in there

i just posted this a few days ago on a friends timeline, matter of fact:

It must be considered that there is nothing more difficult to carry out nor more doubtful of success nor more dangerous to handle than to initiate a new order of things; for the reformer has enemies in all those who profit by the old order, and only lukewarm defenders in all those who would profit by the new order; this lukewarmness arising partly from the incredulity of mankind who does not truly believe in anything new until they actually have experience of it.

if you like that there is the art of war, on war, 50 laws of power, the godfather

blueprint for attaining and holding power...will always be the book for it.
Machiavelli is one of the greatest philosophical minds of all time.

It was impressing how Machiavel thought about each type of possible manipulation to get and to keep power. I am 100% sure that each and every politician nowadays have read and are using his analysis/tricks.

Machiavelli wrote his piece "The Prince" while in exile, he was exiled because of his previous work calling on the principality to revert back to a democratic set up similar to early Rome. The prince did not like it and so Machiavelli was exiled. He hated being away from the city so when the new, young prince was looking like taking power he wrote The Prince as a gift, in an attempt to be invited back to court. He knew his words were true, but at the same time he did not believe in what he was saying, he was completely against a dictatorial rulership.

very cool insight into how goverments/societies work.. you can take that book and apply it to every era, and they do, but you can also see the influences in every day life

fascinating book, and back story

interesting the irony behind how writing the book made him far more hated than he originally was
